How do you get that number? they sold the set-top box unit for over 2 billion, they kept the Advanced Technology group, they get the patent portfolio, they get Lenovo and Arris stock, a patent licensing deal with Arris...

They lost a ton of money, but not 10 billion even if you conservatively value all of the stuff they kept and got back.

Google laughs at a $5 billion or even a $10 billion write-off, though. At least they were able to cut their losses. I like Google.

google never wanted anything more than the patents - they paid a reasonable 4bb for that (excluding losses).

Lenovo bought their PC business from IBM and it was bleeding money...they are now the #1 PC maker in the world, no?

There's value there if you know how to use what's left over.

those investigations aren't over and the SEC investigation - the only really important investigation - isn't over.

as you know, or should know, the SEC normally doesn't even file a suit unless they know it's a slam dunk.

there is a chance EBIX could prevail, but it's extremely unlikely and those still holding will very likely be holding all the way down...if 2 years isn't enough to convince you, some stranger telling you the same thing on a comment thread here isn't going to matter.

you've convinced yourself you're right, so go right on a hold through all the pain...

and in 2 years, what has the stock done again? you might get lucky, but assuming you know more than some of the best money managers in the world is a risky move.

  • The Truth About Robin Raina's Ebix: Part I [View article]
what's your point? Mr. Yu isn't the first to point out accounting issues at EBIX and he won't be the last. The fact that he's trying to protect himself is, in my opinion, par for the course. He doesn't want or need the hassle of being painted as a stock manipulator for just writing his opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the author doesn't have a position in EBIX, right?

Ebix HAS to try - their life depends on whether they can get something out there that will salvage their reputation. This comment is extremely weak. Trying implies an attempt to resolve something rather than just provide a simple and tangible explanation which they haven't done. Countering an accusation is not the same as refuting it with cold, hard evidence...like an audit from a big accounting firm something they seem unable and unwilling to do.

If you think for a moment GS would care about run of the mill lawsuits, you have another thing coming...for the price they were set to pay if Ebix was on the up-and-up they would have been run out of town for not completing the deal. The fact that they decided to walk away despite all of that should be extremely telling. GS is for argument's sake the top dog on Wall Street - if they decide it isn't worth it, then it isn't. If I were you, I would walk away.

why is it that you longs have no other recourse but to use insults to defend your position?

you guys think you know more than Goldman Sachs does? think they're idiots for walking away from what clearly seemed like a very favorable valuation? right...if Goldman walked away, I think you longs should be very careful here.

EBIX's response has been less than impressive through all of this...when the bottom does fall, I expect each of you immature longs that spent months insulting those with a viewpoint opposite yours to apologize...I know it won't happen, but I figured I'd make a mark anyway.

first line of the article states pretty clearly they are short EBIX - the article serves as a rationale for their position....why are there so many whiners in this thread? are you longs so upset that someone would DARE say anything negative about your precious EBIX? my guess is for every negative article on EBIX there are 10 claiming what a fantastic profitable company it is. go spit.

you don't get discouraged very easily, do you? even in the face of hard facts?

you don't like those estimates? do your own research, crunch the numbers, and refute away....

using ENY's supposed credibility as your argument? c'mon....we're not talking about the US arms of ENY....here's one recent story on just how credible the foreign arms of big US accounting firms are:

in this case, what's the difference? from what I understand, the virus is contracted through direct contact - if these vaccines keep the virus dormant, or block its ability to "activate" then wouldn't that essentially nullify the risk of an infected person passing it on? correct me if I'm missing something...
