  • Significant Momentum Reversal [View instapost]
Thanks for the discussion. I commented on another thread this morning that the SPY has been trading in a narrow range since March. Problem now is that the 200sma has moved up into that range. It would seem something has to give.
Question: By devaluing their currency does this maintain or strengthen the USD? If the dollar goes higher than oil goes lower, right?

LOL. Great comment. Reminds me of trying to read the tea leaves with charts only. Keep moving the lines until the bias matches your opinion.

  • Position Sizing And Averaging Down [View instapost]
Hey OM. So I understand your rationale behind risky, semi-safe, and safe stocks. The delineation is subjective of course but I get going all in an a large cap, low beta, liquid stock. But when you've predetermined a stock as semi-safe and use your 4-4-7 entry points for averaging down, are you saying if the trade is immediately green you never average up? Seems very conservative and I want to be sure I've got that right.

Great. That will be sure to bust $SLCA's comeback candle tomorrow if the "key barometer" part is true.

Agree with above. Here in FL, local paper reports 1 in 2 homeowners spend half their income on rent/mortgage. Not healthy long term.

  • MARKET ROUT BEGINNING: STILL TIME TO GET OUT [View instapost]
Thanks for the info. I agree with your thesis. Here in Florida the housing market is anything but fixed. Still many half developed neighborhoods growing nothing but weeds. Only apartments taking off. Resale for existing homes improving but foreclosures still sky high. Nothing down here to support to huge gains in housing related stocks. That said, remodeling is doing well. So if I was to play a proxy I might look at HD, MAS or USG type stocks.

Agree with you on tech. I got out of EMC and INTC earlier in the year at the highs and am glad I did.

At this point I'm 75% cash because I'm not sure what to do. Was buy and hold for the last 30 years and got sick of drops and having to wait for 5 years until it came back (ala INTC or GE). Been trying to become a swing/options trader of the last year with limited success. :( Not as easy as it seemed on paper.

    Thanks again.

  • 3D Systems Earnings Preview [View article]
Any concern over latest lowered CAPEX numbers? These are big dollars machines for most. Not an MRO type purchase. Just wonder if the general increase in mfg pessimism will have companies put off purchasing this machines at this point. I think this view holds even more for SSYS.

  • SLIGHT UPTICK IN MARKET INTERNALS. SHORTSELL SIGNALS FLOODING IN [View instapost]
Your description of Hanoi sounds a lot like central Florida. No one ever believes the incredible volume of a tree frog can come from something so small.

Thanks for you insight. Would like to hear your opinion of investing in Vietnam. Working in the mfg industry, I am seeing much interest in moving from China to Vietnam as the next low cost supplier. May be a little early but as I say, the interest is strong.

  • hhgregg: 5 Reasons We Think The Trend Will Be Down [View article]
Thanks for the article. Been watching HGG since they opened a store in my area. True to my Peter Lynch style of investing, it is my opinion that our local store sucks - especially for appliances. The associates were clueless. They basically read me the info off the marketing labels.

I agree with your inclination to short. I'll probably wait closer to next earnings so as to not get caught up in some unforeseen event. I cannot imagine a good outcome for this company.

  • 3D Systems Secondary Provides A Buying Opportunity [View article]
As an ex-design engineer, I love the premise of this company. It could shave months off the product development cycle not to mention the costs associasted with outsourcing prototypes. This is the type of disruptive technology that "could" be the multi-bagger when the market returns to an uptrend.

However, I agree with Advill's comments to go all in at this point.

  • Sharks Are Circling Around Salesforce.com [View article]
Great article Josh. I shorted CRM this afternoon when it crossed below the 200. I posted it on stocktalks and was quickly reminded of how difficult this stock is to short because of the large institutional influence. You mentioned it ever so briefly so could you expound on what it would take for them to unload their shares. To start the landslide so to speak?
