  • Obama administration expected to act on gun regulations  [View news story]
That reminds me of the story of anti-gun crusader Michael Moore and how he travels with armed bodyguards. It came out after one of his guards tried to get thru airport security while carrying. He had said guns were for cowards. He had said if you need security "get a dog". Oh the irony.

Ok Willow, I'll bite. How do you want to change the laws? The only way to stop violence with guns is to remove guns from the equation. So if you could realistically confiscate the majority of guns in the US, you contend the homicide rate would be reduced? To what? You'd gladly take away a constitutional right of every American to theoretically save a certain number of people being killed by gunshot?

I keep thinking there's a paradox in this thinking. What if those two in California had used the pipe bombs they had made instead of the guns? How would the argument go then?

I've always wondered about the efficacy of confiscating 300 million firearms. I suppose it could be done with threats of prison. I wonder if everyone who owned a gun just claimed they were a undocumented "dreamer" it would all be deemed okay. How do the lyrics to Kumbaya go?

  • Solar Stocks - A Trade For 2016  [View instapost]
To anyone interested in ENPH, do your DD first. Their tech has been surplanted by SEDG's for the time being. I don't know enough to speculate on their future but currently their lunch is being eaten by SEDG.

Great list btw Mike. Appreciate the discussion.

Also, with the budget extension yesterday, the solar industry lobbyists (SEIU) got the ITC extended for another 5 years.

My fav is SEDG. They'll be the supplier for all of them soon.

TAS you are spot on. As mid-way thru the process, I'd like to add a couple of things I've noticed as my family's financial situation has diverged from close friends and family over the future.
    11. Avoid the need to impress anyone with new cars and fancy things. Cars could arguably be identified as your number one waste of money.
    12. Avoid frequent moves. The change in RE taxes, new furniture, appliances, closing costs, etc add up to quite a bit.

LOL. Great comment. Reminds me of trying to read the tea leaves with charts only. Keep moving the lines until the bias matches your opinion.

  • Position Sizing And Averaging Down  [View instapost]
Hey OM. So I understand your rationale behind risky, semi-safe, and safe stocks. The delineation is subjective of course but I get going all in an a large cap, low beta, liquid stock. But when you've predetermined a stock as semi-safe and use your 4-4-7 entry points for averaging down, are you saying if the trade is immediately green you never average up? Seems very conservative and I want to be sure I've got that right.

Great. That will be sure to bust $SLCA's comeback candle tomorrow if the "key barometer" part is true.

Agree with above. Here in FL, local paper reports 1 in 2 homeowners spend half their income on rent/mortgage. Not healthy long term.

Thanks for the info. I agree with your thesis. Here in Florida the housing market is anything but fixed. Still many half developed neighborhoods growing nothing but weeds. Only apartments taking off. Resale for existing homes improving but foreclosures still sky high. Nothing down here to support to huge gains in housing related stocks. That said, remodeling is doing well. So if I was to play a proxy I might look at HD, MAS or USG type stocks.

Agree with you on tech. I got out of EMC and INTC earlier in the year at the highs and am glad I did.

At this point I'm 75% cash because I'm not sure what to do. Was buy and hold for the last 30 years and got sick of drops and having to wait for 5 years until it came back (ala INTC or GE). Been trying to become a swing/options trader of the last year with limited success. :( Not as easy as it seemed on paper.

    Thanks again.
