  • Alternative Fuel Plays Look Like Bad Investments [View article]
Thank you for this article! It really puts the "this time is different" rationalization of many to test. I've been looking at the natgas conversion plays for a few months and CLNE, NAV, CMI, FSYS, and WPRT were all on my list.

I think the use of natgas as a fuel for large industry movers like UPS and such will remain. I just do not know how to play it. History of other industries would suggest first mover is not necessarily last standing such that playing CMI or NAV may be the best call.

  • Pocket 28% Profits On J.C. Penney [View article]
Thanks for the article. I'm now your #261 follower. JCP came on my radar a little late. In Peter Lynch style, I started looking at it when they Sunday ad changed in format. My wife hated the old JCP for all the ridiculous coupons and sales but hated the new format even more. I'm still tempted to short this into earnings. I understand the employees are unhappy with the changes and the stores are empty. Reminds me of when ex-GE exec Bob Nardelli was made CEO of HD. He ran it into the ground. HD wasnt GE and similarily, JCP is not AAPL.

  • 5 Biotech Stocks To Buy Now For Gains In 2013 [View article]
Qnexa will not be the golden bullet. At an efficacy rate of 10% reduction, all our obese people will just become 10% less obese and still fat. And that's assuming they stay on the drug. All the associated healthcare costs will not change. That perspective aside, from an investment perspective, I'd be looking to double my money on hype alone.

There are not 150 million obese people in the US. Yes, many, many "fat" people, but obese, no. Getting there most defintely but your statistics are off.

  • New BVSN Report Coming. [View instapost]
Great repeat call on BVSN. I got tied up in work and forgot to get in last week and awoke to this pump and dump going under. If NIA stays around I guess I can re-visit next qtr.

  • 3 Reasons Valero Is Less Attractive Than Peers [View article]
Blasphemy! Haven't you read all the Valero undervalued articles that SA seems to publish on a daily basis? VLO has been dead money for me for years. Long VLO, but not by choice.

Marketing-wise, Zumba is sponsering nationwide Guiness World Record days in which they try to get as many people as possible in a given area to participate in a mass Zumba routine for a world record. If you look at the trend, the number of people showing up just keeps growing at each event. Anecdotally bullish imo.

  • Vivus (VVUS) shares resume trading, +90.6% after an FDA advisory panel votes to recommend Qnexa. Also with weight-loss drugs waiting for approvalARNA +18.8%, OREX +14%.  [View news story]
My shout-out goes to EXPStocktrader who was the voice of reason over the last few weeks. Not Adam - he poo-poo'ed the stock saying it didn't have a chance. I will agreee he did a great job blogging the panel discussion yesterday.

What to do now? Hold a 100% gain in anticipation of more or get out and move on to the next one?

  • Choosing Stocks Prior To Earnings For Large Returns [View article]
I agree with you completely. I always pick my big trades based on the stock itself. If Israel nuked Iran tomorrow, would I be comfortable holding the stock for whatever amount of time it takes to recover.

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop (BBW -23.1%) CEO Maxine Clark tries to explain away the firm's lackluster Q4 performance in an earnings CC. She says a slow holiday season at theaters depressed the anticipated sales for products with tie-ins to current releases - forcing the company to step up promotions and discounting.  [View news story]
She makes no mention of the recall and associated costs either. Will that not hit until next qtr?

  • 5 Stock Picks That Outperformed Jim Cramer [View article]
Snarky remarks aside, I appreciate your views on XOM. I think they are perceived exactly as you say. But I believe they are positioning themselves within the US on what may be a great decade for US E&G. They are too big to make huge gains but I think I like them more for their stabilty than anything else.
