  • GE's Immelt says he's confident about sealing the deal for Alstom [View news story]
"But Nomura's Shannon O'Callaghan thinks GE might be better off walking away"

I agree. The Alstom deal is problematic from the start. The company is not doing well. The French government put their fingers in the pot to stir it up... GE should walk. Leave Alstom's problems to the French government. Bureaucrats have no business getting into business... double-trouble here...

  • Nokia X Is Shaking Things Up A Bit [View article]
From my understanding, Microsoft owns many patents in regard to the Android operating system. Several companies are paying Android royalty to Microsoft, while others negotiated a smaller fee and/or with cross-licensing agreements (Dell, Samsung, ...).

  • Microsoft's Bing To Aid Turnaround In Online Services [View article]
Bing image is a daily learning experience. When presented with an interesting image, I clicked the link boxes on the image and read the facts. I had not used Google since Bing page became an educational search engine interface. Google seems to blatantly violate the use of intellectual properties. I teach so I tell students to use Bing and learn from it. It will take time but Bing may become a new word in the dictionary..... I Bing today....

  • Ford (F -0.7%) will reportedly drop the price on the 2014 Focus EV to $35,200 from $39,200 - presumably in response to price cuts from Nissan, Honda, and Toyota on their own EV models. According to Edmunds.com, the 2014 Focus EV is a "top choice" in the crowded segment. [View news story]
Ford is putting a lot of pressure on Nissan, Honda and Toyota. It's like boxing when the opponent moves away (in price) to breath, the champ moves in.

  • Nokia (NOK) +2.6% AH after the WSJ reports Microsoft (MSFT) held advanced talks to buy Nokia's phone business, and was "close to an oral agreement" at one point, but adds discussions broke down in part due to price and concerns about Nokia's competitive positioning. One source says the talks "took place as recently as this month, but aren't likely to be revived." [View news story]
If Apple buys Nokia then redeploys Nokia with iOS, Apple effectively destroys Windows phone. Nokia is the only significant Windows phone market driver.

  • The EU is set to fine Microsoft (MSFT +0.5%) by the end of March for failing to make good on an '09 promise to offer Windows users a choice of browsers, Reuters reports. Given the EU has fined $2.1B to date, any penalty could be substantial. Perhaps Microsoft can defend itself by pointing out European consumers are having little trouble finding their way to 3rd-party browsers on their own. [View news story]
Here are just a "few", search for EU fines:
EU Fines Microsoft multiple times - Total Billions.
    EU Fines Intel Record $1.45B
EU Fines 17 steel producers $635M
EU Fines the world's biggest memory chip makers $403M
EU Fines 17 bathroom equipment manufacturers $764M
EU Fines Royal Philips Electronics NV (PHIA), LG Electronics Inc. (066570) and a Samsung Electronics Co. unit

What are they doing with all that money?
Split between themselves behind closed doors....
EU is economically-raping everybody..... to pay for their incompentency....
i.e.- French's 3-days work week, so they protest when GT don't want to manufacture in France...

  • The apparent weak early sales for Nokia's (NOK) Lumia 900 phone might have something to do with AT&T's (T) inexplicable decision to launch it on Easter Sunday. Checks from the NYT found that nearly all 39 AT&T stores near Times Square were either closed for or did not answer phone calls. Those that were open didn't have the device in stock.  [View news story]
The comparison between platform choices focuses on the number of apps. People should tap an app, then count 1, tap and count 2. They should time themselves to see how long it would take them to count to 500,000. At the end, ask themselves how many apps do they remembered?

  • Surface Pro 3: Why Intel Is Microsoft's Mobile Future [View article]
"Microsoft's (MSFT) Surface Pro 3, announced about 8 months after the Surface Pro 2, demonstrates an enviable level of business agility, marketing savvy and technical prowess.....Microsoft has finally found the sweet spot, sending shock waves throughout the industry."

It seems that MSFT is listening to its customers. Surface Pro 3 as a possible replacement for the enterprise laptop will be a huge market. The last several years of economic uncertainty, companies put a lid on corporate hardware refresh expenditure. When that lid is taken off, the right product with the right price at the right time will benefit. Surface Pro 3 seems to have found that sweet spot. Microsoft needs to build Windows ecosystem in general and possibly Intel specific.

EU needs money.. they are a bunch of thieves. They have been stealing US companies money. Google ($800/share) complained about MSFT/$22, make one wonder how many Google shares do they hold.
