Porting office to a ipad is large programming project, possibly the largest software development project on ipad, and had to be started a long time ago before Nadella was appointed.

  • Microsoft's Deal With Apple A Lucrative Move? [View article]
You state "Of course, Apple also benefits, as the company will receive 30% of the fees paid for the Office app purchased through the App Store. The app costs between $100.00 for consumers and $160.00-plus for businesses per year. This creates another new line of revenues for Apple."

I downloaded office to my sons ipad, and it requires us to by an office365 license (or use an existing). These money go directly to Microsoft.

The ipad-app is a free viewer into microsoft server, access to the server is paid for outside Apple.

This cloud model could be disruptive to apple (and google play) if it is extended to other apps.

  • Evidence That Apple Intends To Start Mobile Payment Processing [View article]
    Regarding security,
Apple have compleete control over hardware, OS, app's and it has a fingerprint recognition included into the phone.
The new processor has secure enclave that is used to store date from the fingerprint sensor, this could possibly be used to store payment details also (Note this is a speculation, nobody outside Apple know this for sure)

  • Microsoft Makes A Key Move [View article]
Lenovo is a hardware manufacturer, they make hardware that runs all sorts of OS's. I would not be surprised if they make the same hardware both Window and Android, perhaps only with different label

  • Bloomberg: BlackBerry to get major boost from Ford [View news story]
QNX has always been a good realtime operation system and has been used for industrial applications for a long time. I think I first heard about QNX before I heard about GSM! Selecting QNX as basis for automobile seams to be a reasonable choice. But, I do not expect it to contain any Blackberry applications or result in any additional sales of Blackberry phones.

  • The Future Of Mobile Payments: Part II [View article]
This type of security problems could be to Appls advantage (and perhaps Microsoft). To prevent Trojan Apps from reading sequrity data (ID, Fingerprint,..) the manufacturer has to have compleete controll of hardware, software and appstore. Only Apple (and Microsoft/Nokia) have this

  • The Future Of Mobile Payments: Part I [View article]
The big question is why should customers and shops that have VISA and Mastercard choose to use the mobile phone instead of a creditcard ?

If mobile phone payments where the only cash-less payment option and someone invented the credittcard, I believe that the credit-card would quickly take large part of the market.

If payment by mobile phone shall succeed it must be better than existing solutions

  • Should Smartphone Vendors Worry About 'Microdroid'? [View article]
From what the leaks describe the Nokia Android phone will not contain any Google apps or Google play possibilities. It will look like a Windows phone, it will contain Nokia apps, and possibly a separate Nokia App store.
Remember that the software on a Google Android Phone consists of two parts: The Android software that is free open source, and the Google parts that are owned and controlled by Google. Google licences its software for free but you have to pay by user information.

  • Nokia Gets Ready To Board The Windows RT Pain Train [View article]
Windows RT is a variation of Windows Phone. Since Nokia has "mastered" Windows phone it is most likely not a big step to make a Windows RT tablet.
It would probably include the same Nokia specific software as the Windows Phones. Perhaps wireless charging will reappear and hopefully it is possibility to add a Bluetooth keyboard.
R&D is mostly paid for, the major investment is production line, distribution and marketing

Do we really know the details of the contract ?

In other manufacturing business (not iphones) such an agreement would be a frame agreement, where the distributor (Verizone in this case) have the right to purchase a certain amount of articles at a predetermined price. It is never an obligation to sell a large number of articles.

If the distributor does not need the articles he shall give notice in advance, and in some cases he must pay a small cancelation fee, but never the full price of the contract.

  • Microsoft (MSFT +3.6%) roundup: 1) Windows Phone 8 will be updated by year's end to support 1080p displays, The Verge reports. Given 1080p Android phones are already out, Microsoft needs this to happen quickly. 2) Microsoft's shift to a per-CPU-core licensing model from a standard per-CPU model for its SQL Server database and BizTalk middleware reportedly has enterprises worried about broader pricing changes. VMware can sympathize. 3) Microsoft has stepped up its "Scroogled" ad campaign, which assails Google's commitment to user privacy and search result objectivity. [View news story]

The purpose of business it to generate money for the shareholders, and the only ways for a company to return money to its shareholders is by buying back stocks or by giving out dividends.
