  • Game On: What Dry Ship Investors Missed On Friday [View article]
Opinion: There are hundreds of capesize waiting in lines at ports in s.a. and aust. a quick spate of iron ore orders from china and the spot rate for available tonnage spiked. panamaxs swoop in and grab a few cargoes.. this will end soon. expect long term recovery in dry in 5 yrs.. much toilet flushing to come..
demand on long term steady growth path but tooo many ships..
unless: china, india, etal. get back to 9% gdp and suck up supply quick.

  • Fracking: Economic Opportunity Or Environmental Time Bomb? [View article]
My father in law was head of the physics lab for 45 years and head of the bomb building division for 25 years. He ran the "secret" project to miniaturize those things. He told me the half life was about 50 years and then they could redrill the area. As far as I now, this was the first and last stab at that kind of thing.. I'm no scientist, so I take his word on those things..

Jolly, in the 50's in search of peaceful uses for atomic energy they put a miniature nuke down hole in n.w. nm. just outside chama, to see if flow rates would be increased.. original fracking.. engineers more than a mile away were tossed out of their lawn chairs.. it definitely increased the flow rate but they didn't figure that strontium or tritium would be in the gas.. well was capped..

  • Comex Registered Gold Cover Ratios Hit Unprecedented Levels: Over 50 Claims Per Oz. [View article]
paullev, i have seen it here hundreds of times that gold has no return value. try this little exercise : pick up the comex phone, go out 1 year and buy 7 contracts, simultaneously selling 6 contracts a further year out. There is a spread market quoted so you don't have to leg in. This will equal app.1mm on each side. Have your wingmate on the chi. line and sell 1 bill future (1mm) to lock in the interest rate.
you have just created a synthetic interest rate backed by bars.
you need to put a monetary tail on the spread to achieve even dollar amounts.. When done in size, there is money there. The banks will borrow at 25ps lets say, and lend to the gold market at 150bps for instance. ( Figures not exact but i hope you get the point.)
at convergence you unwind the spread or roll it out further. It's a function of the cost of money.

AU has made a perfect 50% retracement move, this is good.
Fed will be buying our own paper from foreigners for years,
what they do with it is anyones guess.. fuzzy accounting and disingenuous statements abound. germany is on a 7 yr. wait list to get their physical back from us.. what's up with that

Tank0, I think it's merely filling out and signing some paper work mostly referring to the refiner markings and #s on the bars. Maybe these days they do it electronically but I don't think it's difficult. Who knows how much will be converted per couple of hundred $$ up. Maybe a lot, maybe none, but it's gonna be one hell of a fight as we move north..
