  • The William O'Neil Strategy: A Quest for Upside Surprise [View article]
Apple might be distant second in terms of marketshare, but they are making far more profit per device. Also, no one is using any computer tech that was not derived from Macintosh.

Apple will end up taking a huge chunk of the computer market. In terms of profit, they already have 91% of the market for computers costing more than $1000. IOW, they already own the high end market. I think they want the rest of the market as well, which should be easy considering it's the high margin market that everyone is after and they already have that.

  • Amazon, Apple Stock Going Vertical: This Never Ends Well [View article]
FUD, pure and simple, someone wants to buy in cheap or is shorting, no doubt.

As the previous comments stated, Apple is simply NOT overvalued. Do you have any idea what the earnings are going to be when they change accounting this quarter???

Reminds me of all the numskulls that thought it was a 'premium' brand that 'no one would buy in a recession'. Which was totally incorrect, they sales have gone UP during the recession.

  • How Apple's Market Share Will Propel Stock to $500, Part 2 [View article]
    @ Techtrader:

I know your posts have no basis in reality, but you ought to know that Apple just refreshed literally ALL of their Mac (not MAC, BTW) product line over the summer and fall. There is nothing older than, what, 4 months?

  • Why Apple's iTouch Tablet Will Become Its Flagship Product [View article]
No way the iPod Touch was an afterthought I think you have that backwards.

The original iPod was great, but very limited in it's capabilities. I think the iPod touch is the solution they chose to evolve the iPod and it has worked perfectly. It was then fairly easy to add the cell phone function.

But it doesn't matter much which came first, so long as we have both chickens and eggs.

  • Why Apple's iTouch Tablet Will Become Its Flagship Product [View article]
iPhone aps will run on a new device with a larger screen with no problem. Like any Apple software, they will likely make it support the older stuff as is until anything problematic can be rewritten. Don't expect they want to lose the app advantage they have already with iPhone apps! I think Apple might not even differentiate on the software base, but then again, the tablet software could be more involved and more expensive. With what they have already done, the entire model for distributing media is already in place, from software to books to magazine or newpaper subscriptions, it would be very simple to displace the Kindle, IMO.

Why would anyone care what Microsoft's music scheme du jour is this time around? None of the others made sense, or worked long term. Did you miss them, or what?

  • Apple, Amazon on to Something Big [View article]
iPod/iPhone has already integrated all of Kindle into it's DNA. All they need is a larger screen now. Kindle is a one trick pony, it can't even navigate the internet.

iPod already reads Kindle documents, but in color, not B&W like the Kindle.

Kindle is good if you want to read your electronic device outside, other than that the iPod is just as good for reading (better with the color support).

'whim of fashion and fad'? Good one! Where do you make this stuff up? BTW, he would have nearly had to buy at $190 to underwater...

You probably said the same thing about Apple 10 years ago, didn't you? How's your MSFT going?

  • Jim Jubak's Watch List - Should You Own These Stocks? [View article]
All depends on your target price, which could be (and was in the recent past) way, WAY off.

And you talk about the score, enough to show it's all based on your meaningless target, but you do not show it.

Reads like a list of what you have invested and shorted.

  • Amazon's New Kindle-DX: $489 for an E-Reader? [View article]
Apple already has an amazon book reader for iPod, that also works in color. They are rumored to have a larger format iPod coming out. I am guessing something with a folding screen that still fits in your pocket. If that is the case, it will supplant this, except perhaps for people with older eyes, etc... ePaper is nice, but (mostly) kids reading textbooks aren't going to care about that much.

  • Amazon's New Kindle-DX: $489 for an E-Reader? [View article]
Maybe since Amazon is the largest book seller, they are not keen on selling this at a competitive price. I agree wtih KenC (again) this is way too expensive (especially the media).

  • Amazon Gaining Share on iTunes [View article]
Apple wasn't late to DRM free music, they were the first to push for it. Also, the DRM on iTunes was so successful because it was hardly even noticeable. You could still share the music, just not post it for everyone to dl for nothing. It's the least intrusive DRM ever made, really. This matches Apple's approach on the Mac, hardly any of their software has any sort of registration process. For instance, Mac OS X itself.

And yes, AAC downloads on iTunes are far bette than Amazon which is still using MP3s. Anyone that thinks they are getting a better quality experience on Amazon is seriously deluded.
