This is amusing, that anyone could have such a poor understanding of Apple and the tech market in general. Apple leads the market or the mind share behind it in every market in which they compete. There isn't much left in the Microsoft brand, for example, even though they still have a huge existing market, it's declining and Apple's is doubling every 18 months. Apple has more influence and commands more respect than ever. It's market cap is about 60% of Microsoft's. Apple product sales fluctuate primarily based on the timing of new products, which are being released at a quick pace.
Far from an 'unjustifiable premium' Apple products are a fantastic value for the money. Guess again psuedo economist.
And yes, there is always a sale on Apple stuff at this time of year, and always a deal offered at back-to-school, as well as father's day, and year 'round college discounts, church school discounts, etc...
Apple seems to be one of the least impacted by the economic downturn because it's customers are usually either professionals or kids, etc... The products for kids are not going to be denied nearly to the extent of 'luxury' items such as jewelry.
Stocks like Wal-Mart go up in these difficult times. But what person at this point has not taken the joy of downloading an album, at a discount, directly onto their iPods, which can also be burnt to disk, beamed to your stereo/TV, etc... all for LESS THAN IT COSTS AT WALMART.
You people who think Apple is going down in this downturn are just stupid.

Not sure about that, Constable. But, I do think the big money is running down the stock to 'shake out the weak hands' and you would be a fool to sell at the current price.
Apple is taking the market back from Microsoft. Profits are racking up in the billions, iPhone money is not even being reported, therefore a lot of dim WS types are only looking at PE ratios which are very misleading for APPL.
I thought for awhile that Apple should license to clone vendors. I don't think they are going to do that. Check roughlydrafted.com for details on this issue. What I do think they will do, next month in fact, is come out with a terrific lower-end product which will be impossible for any other tech company to compete with (like iPhone).
I think WS has wind of this as well, and that is why they are driving down the stock. They want to buy as cheaply as possible so that when it explodes after the next earnings and product announcements, there will be that much more profit for them.
The back to school quarter for apple this time is going to be a jaw dropper. They bundled iPod touch (or nano if anyone chose that) with every laptop or iMac sold to higher ed buyers. I believe this will not only set a record for the most mac sold (that happens almost every quarter) but I think they could be on track to double any past record.

I think you need a better example than the moto Razor.
That was only different in design, not in functionality or features. It's a ludicrous comparison.
You are really pushing your theory to hold up the Razor as a failure, and suggest that the iPhone would folow that merely well designed phone when the Razor never received 100th the attention the iPhone has, and for obvious reasons--it's a phone, not a computer.

Stock moved on the news of 60 MILLION apps downloaded in one month. Best Buy ins't big news, but it will help. The local store by me had a Mac paired with an Instinct. Of course, for many years they only sold PCs. That was sad, so I'm glad they will have the real deals now, and not just the rip-off, derivative stuff.

RIM actually only has one cylinder to fire on, and it's looking very long in the tooth compared to iPhone. iPhone at $199 will crush blackberry, it's a far more capable phone with all of the internet and iPod experiences, not just email.
Why do a survey of stores that only sell a few brands and then present this as information? It's not information so much as it is limited facts. You might as well go to a trailer park or food stamp office and ask people there what laptops they buy or where they shop for diamonds, then declare a result based on that 'survey'.
