  • Qualcomm: A Promising Leader in Mobile Internet [View article]
    @Stock Doc:

Doesn't anyone find it ironic that you castigate me for recommending AAPL, which is up 225% this year, and yet you recommend QCOM which is up a PATHETIC 16%. Next year could be different, sure, but I seriously doubt it. What were you recommending last year? How has it done?

And you are a professional and I am just an investor. I find that rather hilarious. Good luck, because QCOM is probably headed DOWN, like it's been doing since JULY already.

Try investing in something you actually understand.

@SanDiego Q: BREW is better not discussed, since it's irrelevant. That is not the source of my handle here.

@rajsekar: Apple has not employed me to do anything. I am only trying to tell you that it's one of the best stocks on the net, I have made tons from it. But I guess you aren't into investing to make money? So look for stupid, baseless examples to try to show the iPhone isn't the rock star we all know it is, and cite India and Russia, etc... in a bizarre attempt to discredit it.

Making money in the stock market isn't that hard. Stay away from losers like QCOM and stock 'experts' who would recommend it (trying to take your money, no doubt). Listen to investors who have made money and know what stocks are great long term investments, or do your OWN research.

Flash content actually is widely viewed as trashing up the net, is horribly inefficient and anyone who is actually understands this fully aware that it will eventually die out.

It's a little late to be getting in now, and the reason Qualcom is lagging is that it's not a good buy.

I haven't seen anything is remotely capable of replace or displace iPhone. Apple has the right idea to keep flash off the iPhone. The main actual use for it is youtube, and all that works great on the iPhone since they have implemented server side technology that converts Flash to H264 on the fly.

The only other 'use' for flash is banner ads, which are incredibly annoying and are only slowing down your computer. Best to turn it off in your browser.

    Good luck pumping Qualcom.

  • Tech May Be a Wreck, But This Isn't 2001 [View article]
Apple is stealing Microsoft's bacon. 'Enterprise' has gone Mac already, it's just not hit the CW yet. Just wait for the next earnings release.

There is a pattern with Apple products. Everyone on the 'street' dismisses them universally, until they become phenomena. Then the 'street' questions if they can ever come up with another mac/ipod/iphone, etc... Then the next game changer comes out and the cycle repeats itself. Eventually attitudes change, but that change is glacial.

iPhone has totally redefined the 'smart' phone as we know it. Same as the Mac did to the old fashioned DOS based computer, same as the iPod did to mere 'MP3 players'.

Apple not only has 22 Billion in cash but no debt. They are much better off than Dell, whom you equated them with.

Microsoft, while having 23 billion to Apple's 22 billion in cash, has way too many troubles to list here, and it's low P/E has little to do with the current financial climate but to their many other difficulties.

Let me list a few of these difficulties. First, they are losing market share in operating systems--very few people want 'Vista' and most who have tried it seem to have had problems with the 'upgrade', losing browser share with a non-internet standards compatible browser, a completely failed internet search division, a non-competitive Zune music player, no online sales strategy for media or software, no online applications software, and a game system selling at deep discount (and financial loss) which has been upstaged by Nintendo Wii.

  • Apple Engineered Huge Margins Into Its iPhone [View article]
    @ Keri:

What marketing expenses? Apple hardly advertised the iPhone at all. They didn't have to. When you have a product this cool, this revolutionary, the press will hype it for you. This is exactly what happened. If you ask me (and I realize you didn't) Apple didn't hype the phone at all. All they said about it was absolutely true, not hyperbolic. In fact, there was a lot of great things they didn't even mention.

Apple has had extremely conservative guidance. For years and years, they have far exceeded any wall street estimates. It's a JOKE among the Mac fans out there. What used to happen routinely is that they would triple or quaduple earnings estimages, and the stock would then go down on profit taking. Like clockwork.

Apple is finally getting the reputation they deserve. But still, writers often refer to the 'Apple faithful' etc... Sure, they have a lot of fans, but it doesn't take 'faith' to be an Apple fan nowadays. It would take faith to have any expectation that Microsoft would ever produce anything original or even usable (compated to the Mac alternative).

This fall, you will see an explosion of Apple fortunes. This is because they will take over the #1 PC sales position by licensing WIndoze and including it with their new OS X 'Leopard'. At that point, Windows is just a 'layer' not an operating system. All defaults will be set by Apple. All ad revenues from internet browsing, etc... will push Apple earnings through the roof.
