  • AMD Seattle: Dead On Arrival?  [View article]
FYI, Seattle was never meant for volume production. It is meant to create the platform if you understand what it means in engineering term.

  • AMD Rumors: Separating Fact From Fiction  [View article]
Lots of speculation with no technical support here from a short point of view! I do not except this from technology investing!
Rumor could right or just a rumor, I do not know and I am not going to speculate.
However, since reverse engineering and patent infringement has been part of my work, working in companies and expert for law offices, AMD x86-x64 has huge leverage, consider as improvement over existing X86 and nullify all previous patent. Having say that, we are talking on huge range of portfolio built around the instructions so it is not as easy as many people speculate here.
And yes, AMD can transfer, or even license the technology if she wish too but they won't for simple reason, competition and she have done so in past only for research point of view (AMD licensed X86 to some Chinese institute for research purpose only).
In my point of view, AMD is best suited for Samsung and this has been a major concern for Intel.
Not to mention, the BLX take over is a possibility also from another point of view. The reason Qualcom stock got a hit, the GREAT WALL of CHINA on IC design. They are taking steps preventing any possible HW backdoor, starting on their mobile, but possibly soon, on all hardware.
The treat is already their, 3G radio on CPU.

  • Upcoming Stock Moving Possibilities For AMD  [View article]
Over two decades I worked in Silicon Valley, including over 12 years in AMD and Intel combined), I saw many articles, declaring death of AMD, yet, AMD is still here.

I worked with Jerry, a great guy but not a great CEO, focusing head to head with little vision. Team did a great job focusing on X86-X64 but got little support from big players like MS so it missed the momentum until Intel catch up. Though, the main problem was Hector and corruption culture he and his successor (Mayor) brought to AMD, putting their interest above company and shareholder. And of course, the main core engineering team defection afterward.
When Rory took over, he has to deal with an inferior design (Because Jim left and the team depart from original architecture since they could not even fully understand it). He has to deal with a corrupt culture, and huge debt. He did great job but not enough to satisfy the short term investors and of course WS shorts who plan take over.
I believe AMD has enough talents to rise from ashes and be a major player again but definitely it takes time.

PC magazine report on June 13th:

"Su will continue to report to Read, but analyst Patrick Moorhead guessed that it may only be a matter of time before she takes over the CEO job."

Forget about trolls, this move was expected for long time as part of transition. Only Sand, Vlad, and others could not see it. Wait for next phase.

There has been several reports indicating AMD grooming Dr. Su for the post. Here is one on June 13th PC magazine.

  • Advanced Micro Devices: A Historic Turn-Around In The Making  [View article]
Thanks for good article. I agree.
What these troll don't want to confess or don't know on design side is the fact that AMD topped Intel's speed on 486, they came up with X86-x64, first real dual core, first integrated Mem controller architecture, first Fusion controller, and first SoC but an incompetence leadership. Things seem getting in order with a superior leadership.
Not to mention, this is not the first time the same trolls have been ruling out AMD out of maps several times and here we go again!

It would be better to stick to the subject and discuss your points if any rather than focusing on the writer's personal experience. Judging by your comments, the same apply to you on opposite side.

  • 3 Reasons To Avoid Getting Cut By The Falling Knife That Is Advanced Micro Devices  [View article]
Probably a bit more research before writing a report will help:

"One thing is certain: AMD needs to spend more on R&D if it hopes to stay relevant."

In AMD case, your argument is irrelevant when it comes to custom design considering the fact that R&D paid mostly by Sony and MS. This will answer your second argument. The margin is lower because the initial cost was shared so will the margin!

"Some analysts are hoping AMD's revenue will surprise to the upside, but cash flow is headed south."

Turning around a business model is not an easy task. Of course this stock is not for overnight gambler. This stock fits well for LONGs but I don't mind if the shorts give me another opportunity to add more load below $4.
