I am a life long wage worker for a small mom and pop business and am about to be put out to pasture. Saved a little but haven't invested beyond a 401. At the eleventh hour, the operation has been sold and shifted among several coimpanies and is now owned by a larger publicly traded company. I have been shifted from an equipment inspector and electrical technician to the senior surviving member of a small (6 person), operation that is an orphan in the organization. 50% of our business had been with small coal fired electric plants, usually 40 to 60 years old. Well we have lost about 80% of that business due to conversion to natural gas and the new air pollution regulations. Anyway I am getting an instant immersion business education. Now I realize that I need to treat my savings as a business that needs to grow and provide for me and my loved ones. I am learning.
