  • Cramer's Mad Money - Great Companies Don't Make Excuses (10/17/13) [View article]
Whew! I was wondering whether to sell AGNC. But now that Cramer says it is a sell, I definitely know I will continue to hold the stock.

  • Jobless Claims at 308K [View news story]
It says initial claims are up 1K and continuing claims are up 1.4K, which is insignificant compared to the total of 2.92M, given the level of accuracy of the evaluations.

  • Weighing The Week Ahead: Expect Volatility, Not Clarity [View article]
    Jeff,

Your fellow Seeking Alpha contributor Joseph Stuber posted a compelling argument today for a "dramatic" market sell off and wonders if maybe the time for such a sell off is now upon us.

I was wondering if you might have read his article and, if so, what your thoughts were?

  • How About A Wage Hike? [View article]
"Nowadays many Americans are actually paid too much for what they bring to businesses, yet here you are advocating a wage hike."

The premise is that wage hikes would be tied to increases in productivity and other measurable metrics. So those that are already paid too much for what they contribute to the business, would ostensibly not share in the gains.

As someone who initially worked blue collar jobs to survive and had to pull myself up by my bootstraps to get where I am today, I understand and agree with their premise.

  • State Street (STT) looks to take on iShares' (BLK) dominant small cap ETF (IWM) with the Tuesday launch of the SPDR Russell 2000 ETF (TWOK). IWM currently has $23.3B in AUM and an expense ratio of 0.24%. This compares to other far smaller competitors like Schwab's SCHA at 0.08% and Vanguard's VB at 0.10%. Previous: Small cap stocks outpace the S&P 500. Other reasonably popular ETFs: IJS, IJR.

  • The Reemergence Of Nuclear Power: A Case For Thorium [View article]
    Amit,

"Yet, even if there is an ample supply of thorium, is it necessarily the best source of nuclear power? The answer seems to be "no" for two primary reasons."

I believe you meant to use the word "uranium" instead of "thorium" in the sentence cited above.

I wonder how well, if at all, the weekly survey results match the following month's S&P 500 performance?

  • Equity CEFs: Is It Time To Overweight The Option Income Funds? [View article]
    Douglas,

According to Morningstar, total return for the S&P 500 exceeded the total return for EOI for every period from 1 week to 5 years. Do you know if the Morningstar data does not include all distributions, etc.?

Otherwise, it looks like just investing in SPY would have been better than investing in EOI. Thanks.

  • Regardless Of The Non-Traded REIT Noise, Defense Always Wins [View article]
    Thanks Brad,

I was afraid ARCP's price had risen too high lately, resulting in a lower dividend yield. Now with the 2% drop in price today, the yield will be up!
