  • Will Oil Production Fall Off A Cliff?  [View article]
The whole reason Musk wants an electric car is because it is more efficient to burn oil in large power plants using LARGE diesel engines, and then using the electricity to move vehicles around. It's just a way to get a LEAP on fuel economy. he said that this could bring a 60% savings in oil usage.

The point is that a car today that gets 20 MPG would get about 33 MPG if it were pure electric and it is assumed that oil is burned at power plants. Eventually, ya ... renewables. But people need to realize why Tesla exists and it has nothing to do with not using oil.

Its not what they have today, its what they have tomorrow. . If USA oil production drops due to cheap gas, their assets ate worth their weight in scrap. They are only pumping out oil today in order to service their debt.
