How Can Microsoft Stay Competitive?

The very last thing that Microsoft needs to do is spin-off into different companies. Without monopoly powers, few of their units could stay afloat.

This is not just another MS bash. It is just that their office products have bugs that have been there 10 years. More of a problem is that there has been no significant productivity improvements in their tools either. Features yes; improvements no.

Why doesn't someone write better products. Because there is an 800 pound gorilla in the room. If there were 8, 100 pound gorillas, they would have to share the bananas.
