Chinese Youth Will Propel Economic and Political Changes [View article]
...the article focuses on Chinese youth, but I'd imagine that the real drivers of demand would be their parents, who have been such great savers and so hold an immense amount of potential discretionary purchasing power, no?
Technically speaking, this decline looks so orderly that I don't see what the rush to get in would be. But if it gets to $25, that's a falling knife I'd lunge for, with an eye to the long term or a spike due to instability of some kind.....
I just take issue with the idea that in a slowing economy, buying gold is going to be that big of a priority, at least for the segment of the Chinese population that is not fairly wealthy, and that is still the vast majority of Chinese....
Momentum for Infrastructure Is Building in Both U.S. and China [View article]
If the way forward is through nearly-unprecedented spending, I say let's at least give ourselves and our kids some better infrastructure to go along with all the bank bailouts. Saddled with all the debt we have left them, they'll appreciate it....
Is the Second Great Depression Imminent? [View article]
I agree with you wackywebname...... At $147/bbl everyone thought that $200 was around the corner. But look at how powerful demand destruction is. We aren't talking about oil being 10%-20% down from the top, either. And, it may well go lower!
Chinese Stock Market Bottoms: What Should U.S. Investors Do? [View article]
Right or wrong, you kill your credibility when you write that "the Chinese market has clearly bottomed". No one can ever be that sure from looking at a chart.
Is China's Stock Market Beginning To Stabilize? [View article]
fair enough, a bouncing ball eventually stabilizes as well.... I just read that one analyst saw almost FLAT growth for China in '09; I don't know if I'm ready to jump back on just yet.
Is Bankrupt Britain Trending Towards Hyper-Inflation? [View article]
Good points archman82011, but when you say "Who was the worlds biggest debtor nation "prior" to this entire crisis?", I think we have talk in terms of debt as a percentage of GDP, right? I'm certainly not suggesting that the US, or the USD will be in good shape in a year or three, but what I've been wondering is how all currencies can fall simultaneously, since their values are expressed in terms of each other. The inflationary forces that'll take the bang outta the buck are at work on other countries' currencies too. I think it all points to an argument to be long gold.
Focus Media Holding Limited: Signs of the Times [View article]
Another company whose stock is outrageously overvalued, even if one is of the opinion that it's recent highs were also a bit overdone..... thanks for the heads-up. No debt also makes FMCN attractive....
Yeah, you look at the chart, and especially if you are thinking long term, can you say that the stock won't rise to oh, say just 200 (approx double where it is now) in the next few years? It hit 425; who would believe you couldn't get 25%--30% AT LEAST per year for the next few years, even if it continues down some from here.... If Internet Chinese advertising growth has a hiccup now, who would believe that in the long run e-commerce won't recover? Baidu at ~$100 has got to be a gift. It may be scary to catch this falling knife, but again, as a long term investor I don't see how you can lose.
