  • The number of natural gas drilling rigs working in the U.S. may have topped out for now, falling by 13 in the latest week to 366, while oil rigs rose by 10, according to Baker Hughes' weekly rig count. Conoco (COP), for one, has no plans to start redirecting any capital toward gas assets until it’s "significantly north of current prices,” an exec said in yesterday's conference call[View news story]
I think the exec was referring to nat gas prices, not gasoline. Nat gas prices are cheaper than gasoline prices.

  • FBI Firearm Background Checks To Top 2M In February [View article]
I have been on lists to buy a Ruger 10/22 and a Glock since January with Bass Pro and a local Gun shop in So Cal. Every time I call Bass Pro to get an update (I called again last Friday), they tell me that they just aren't getting any popular guns in any volume since Sandy Hook. Just about any gun with a detachable magazine is virtually impossible to get right now. They tell me that they don't know when things will get back to normal. Same story at the local gun shops. So to me it makes perfect sense that back-ground checks have gone down a little - there is very little inventory available to buy, and a back-ground check is not ordered (at least at the shops in SoCal) until the customer has put a deposit on a specific serial-numbered gun. The record back-ground check volume in January probably represented the depletion of most of the gun sellers' inventory. There is very little gun inventory now, and Ruger said last week that they are selling everything they make.

As for ammunition, unless you are looking for 20 gauge shotgun, 410 shotgun or 7 mil rounds, you are lucky if you find anything else available at any Wal-Marts or on-line. And when you do find something worth buying, they limit you to 3 boxes total. There already is an ammo shortage that someone above said would come later.
