  • Although the two-day slump in refiners might tempt some investors to buy the dips, Simmons analysts say it's too early; lower outlooks for Q2 and full-year 2013 are not yet fully reflected in the stock prices. But the firm favors Gulf coast refiners such as TSO and VLO over those in the Midwest such as HFC and CVI. Tudor Pickering cuts EPS estimates for TSO and HFC but still sees "significant value" in VLO, MPC, DK and PSX[View news story]
This took me with some suprise. But, probably a long-term entry level here.

  • Marathon Oil: Buy, Sell, Or Hold? [View article]
I got interested in this company after I read that T. Boone Pickens had bought an initial 185,000-share position.

I believe its basically impossible to make short term bets on stocks on a consistent basis. What make more sense is to be an long-term investor.

Regarding the valuation, I would not relay on a relative valuation. And if I did I would look at Forward P/E (11), Forward EV/EBITDA (3) and Book value per share in 2013 (28,8).

Still, looking at that is not really going to give you any edge in the market, since that is easily available for any investor...

So what is comes down to is the DCF-value. Personally I received an value of $44.

  • Strategas analyst Daniel Clifton sees a better than 50% chance the Keystone pipeline (TRP) will be approved by late summer, and he thinks seven stocks will benefit directly or indirectly: CNQ, COP, DE, XOM, LYB, PWR and VLO - companies which already are doing well, and adding incremental revenue from Keystone should only help to improve their top and bottom lines. [View news story]
    Lets hope so.

  • Western Refining: Poised To Pop A Gusher [View article]
    Great summary!

I have made almost 100% excluding dividends on this stock.

Management has also been buying back shares and reduced debt.

Look for way higher valuation going forward.
