  • Lorillard: Short-Term Volatility Creates Great Opportunity For Dividend Investors [View article]
I like my LO. I just wish it would split. Then MORE people could/would buy it and like it, too!

I'm STILL in the "I'll never sell" category because of my age. Your prognositications will not happen during my lifetime, Richjoy403.

I have positions in all the above, and have had for many years. I'll never sell!

  • 10% Dividend Yields From Closed-End Funds [View article]
Sounds good - now. It's too bad I didn't wait, instead of buying when my broker sold it to me, at inception. Needless to say, I'm not making anything like 10%, plus I'll never be back to basis. So I lose both ways.

I have learned two things from this experience (along with FHY and BGY both of which were sold me by the same broker). 1) Never buy on the inception of the Fund and 2) never, ever, again buy from that broker!

And I read their comment as "you send us a copy of the K-1 and we'll prepare and mail the form. Two different takes on the statement.

"The Depositor agrees to provide the Custodian with all information necessary to prepare any reports required ".

  • Master Limited Partnerships And Your IRA [View article]
I must be missing something. Let me recap, please. First, we pay taxes via the 990-T for UBTI over the $1,000 threshold. Any monies under that are non-taxable. We do this annually. Therefore, at the end of say 10 years, we'be paid the REQUIRED taxes on all of the UBTI.

Why, then, are we expected to pay more when we sell the investment at the end of that 10 years. After all, we've paid what was due each and every year. By paying again it would strike me as double taxation.

Now, as you can see, I must have missed something, but you do keep speaking about paying on the UBTI at sale.

Actually, I had one custodian who refused to file the 990-T. I was told I was to take it to my accountant and have them file it. That, of course, would have caused to be have an illegal "contribution" to the IRA a/c had I paid the taxes on it. Fortunately, there were none due. Needless to say, the issue was transferred from that broker to another one, as have other non-IRA shares since.

  • Marine Harvest: No Sign Of Turnaround On The Horizon [View article]
And I, silly goose that I am, may even buy some more if it continues to decrease. I've never had much luck buying Marine Harvest. This time it's been REALLY bad luck, but...there's bound to be a "good" time.

Buy them both! Along with his recommended RAI and LO. I also hold VGR. No, I don't smoke...but lots of other people do.

  • MLPs Are Not Extremely Overvalued By Any Measure [View article]
So much more correct than was the last article I read on Seeking Alpha on MLPs. I've owned them since 1994 and am yet to be unhappy with them. I doubt I ever will be...since I plan on holding them until I'm at St. Peter's gates. Then the children are welcome to them.

    Thanks for the good read.

  • Marine Harvest: Consider Holding for Dividends and Eventual Capital Gains [View article]
My, I do hope you're correct. As a long-time holder of a number of JF stocks, I'm not too worried. Yet, I do have a tendency to fret when I get under water on any stock.

I've held SDRL since 9/05 and it won't be too long before I'll have received in dividends an amount equal to my purchase price. My only regret is that I didn't buy more in 2005!

I love it. Except for PGN, I've held all of these years and years. Was disappointed and scared about DUK for awhile, but hung on and now I'm happy again.

If the DUK/PGN is finalized, then I'll have them all. I'm so confident of these issues I rarely even check on them. Except for the dividends, of course, I check on those every quarter.

  • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners: Utility Play Wrapped in an MLP [View article]
    Five Plus,

I would have, but ETP was not in the IRA. Amazing, since most of my yielding stocks are. It would have hurt me for three years in a row. Now it's back down to negative numbers.

Since all the money I've got left to play with is in the IRA, I'd have to put BIP in there and I didn't want to blithely walk into a UBIT tax problem.

Thanks for your reply...and for remembering my prior message.
