Don't Expect Pitney Bowes To Slash Its Double-Digit Dividend Yield [View article]
"Do it to me once, shame on thee... do it to me twice, shame on me."
History is full of examples to the effect that there is seldom just "one and done" when it comes to a dividend cut. It's like cockroaches... there never is just one.
COP last raised its dividend on Feb. 11, 2011. At that time, the quarterly dividend went to $.66 from $.55.
COP did not raise its dividend in 2012. February 2012 came and went without an increase. Now, February 2013 has come and gone, again without an increase in the dividend.
Isn't it about time for an increase in the dividend? I'll take an increase in the dividend any day over share repurchases.
Fourteen banks are reportedly set to reach a $10B settlement with regulators over abusive foreclosure practices such as incorrect paperwork and excessive charges. The banks include the five that agreed to pay $26B in another deal earlier this year - JPMorgan (JPM), Bank of America (BAC), Wells Fargo (WFC), Citigroup (C) and Ally Financial. The latest settlement will allow banks to end a review of 4M loan files that has cost 1.5B so far. [View news story]

Huh?
Have you stopped to consider the economic impact of NOT being able to have those dinners out twice per week, or that $5000 vacation each year?
Take your personal situation and multiply it by the millions of people who will similarly not go out to dinner, take a vacation, or (heaven forbid) make investments in businesses, and see what you end up with.
Being "comfortable" with paying more taxes to the political elite that created this mess in the first place is just plain nutty.
Less Smoking: The Biggest Long-Term Risk To Altria [View article]
Per the Gallup poll cited in the article, 68% of smokers claim to be addicted to tobacco and unable to stop. I think MO will be around a while longer, absent a government ban. I'm not a smoker or tobacco user. But the continuing loss of our freedom of choice and personal liberties is very, very troubling.

Well, David, it's nice to see you looking at the FCF payout ratio based on traditional metrics as opposed to the non-GAAP methods used by FTR (per our exchange last November).
