re: Professional reviews are the only ones which count

Thanks for the laugh.....as if they know better than actual consumers who actually USE the phone for more than a day.

foxconn also has a vested interest in more competition, Apple can squeeze every penny out of them now, more competition should raise their margins overall.

  • BlackBerry: Yes, Things Can Get Worse [View article]
BB10 hasn't even turned 1 year old, I'ld say its off to a far better start then android and ios in their first year.

The tables have turned, apple and google now have old bloatware, they're riding on good marketing and brand only..

Were you expecting more than a 20% gain over 2 days to reach that negative conclusion?

These run out of cash stories are almost as common as the going out of business articles published ad nauseum the past three years....now they've downsized 40% and off loaded hardware and you think money is now going to be a problem?

They don't need to sell phones to make money, bes 10 licensing fees for byod is a cash cow. Outsourcing low margin hardware to focus on high margin services they are great at was a brilliant move

re: No matter how good the product is won't matter

For normal consumer products thats possible. The average airhead playing mindless apps thats texting mind numbingly dim witted text message all day can be controlled with great advertsing and marketing, Apple and Sansung have them wrapped around their fingers.

The DoD, NATO, Obama and the German Government and numerous corporations aren't so gullible, it takes more than slick advertsing to pass their security requirements.

    -4500 employees
    -reduced hardware losses (foxconn)
    +BES10 service fees

Looks like they are on track to me.

  • BlackBerry Earnings Preview: Enterprise Defections And BBM Strategy In Focus [View article]
    re: Enterprise Defections

The title mentions enterprise defections but mentions no significant number of enterprise customers/companies switching their fleets?

The best I know of are companies 'delaying' upgrading to bes10 while the soap opera at BB played out. Journalists spooked us with Morgan Stanley's 'delay' but in reality they were well on their way to upgrading to bes10, but that hardly gets mentioned in the press, just like the recent automtoive enterprise win with 10k employees, nowheres near the press as MS 'delaying' upgrading.

Agreed. The soap opera going on in management has costed 1000's of BB jobs and millions in sales. Most people havent heard of bb10 or realize its an entirely new OS!
Looks like the soap opera is ending dec 20, Chen and his team are looking better by the week, much better than the political suck holes who held the previous positions, those guys where just looking to fleece shareholders with golden parachutes.

Check out z10, q10, iphone, galaxy on cnet.com for larger sample sizes....you'll find similar results though, bb10 rated highest among consumers, but lowest among 'professional experts' :(

I am in IT but would not pretend to have greater knowledge of security requirements than the DoD, President Obama, NATO and German Government. Their demands are likely the most stringent and they have all endorsed BB more than any other smartphone company and mdm service.

Nothing personal but I dont think you are more qualified than those organizations to asses security, nor is any other person or business that I can think of. The only people pretending to know more are typically the rapid BB bashers out there, most of which know nothing about IT, let alone IT security.

Yep, you can get the best of both worlds as a consumer and will likely get the best apps ported over from android as the numerous crap apps out there are not worth a developers time to make for bb10.
