  • Retirement Strategy: Dividends Are Passive Income Generators For Retirement [View article]
I'm 56 years old with what I think is a good portfolio valued at almost 500K I'm long in several strong stocks with at least 3% or above in yield. Recently I sold 2 stocks, GPC and NUE, both are great companies and I profited very well over 50% with them. The yield however was getting much lower below 3%. I took the profits and reinvested in those strong companies I feel were going to continue to grow for my future income needs. One stock I will not relinquish is KO as it hovers right at 3% but I see future growth in value over time, plus its sympathetical as I inherited that stock. The others are in various sectors such as utilities(DUK, GAS, PPL, SO), Pharm(MRK), TELE(T, VZ), Oil(COP), MLP (EPD). To me these are strong companies with a low risk factor that I can rely on. Obviously anything can happen with stocks, so I have other investments in tax free muni bonds, mutual funds etc. But I think I am on the right path to success. Any other opinions is greatly appreciated.

Solid Utility stocks are a nice play too. Everyone has to pay their utility bills, I have other invested sectors such as(COP, KO, T) but for stability this is a must sector to be in for the long term as well. Long DUK, PPL, GAS, SO all paying a nice yield at 4% clip.

Long T and VZ both were close enough to pay my similar bills with both as one provides my wireless phone and other provides my TV service. But now after today's loss, others are paying my bill for each service as I invested more even though T was up today.

Long EPD, Divi growth each quarter, strong upward potential. Compounding quicker than yearly increases. A great combination that looks tremendous on paper to get stronger each reporting period. Will stay in portfolio a long time.

  • Retirement Strategy: When Should We Sell Stocks From Our Portfolio? [View article]
Regarded, I like your strategy and am nearing retirement age. I'm DRIPing all my holdings and buying in occasionally when have some spare cash to put in. Only sold a couple of stocks out of need but best sell I had was HNZ when Berkshire bought it. I love increasing income every month.

I own both and there are parts of my main upper echelon of my holdings. Once I see a cut in other stock on divis I'm out. But I'm confident that e reduction in the near future is not in the cards.

  • Genuine Parts: Debunking The 'Stocks Are Too High' Myth Since 2005 [View article]
I have done well in this stock since I bought. Also as a KO stockholder I would welcome the split. Being as close to retirement as I am, a split, I know only increases maybe the numbers of stock shares held, but in the long range of thinking on my part, (not a quick thinking, money maker like some folks not DGI), I'm looking at long term goals. Look at the history folks, I see no change. The ship is moving forward on smooth seas, get on board....
