  • Is Nokia The Next Sprint?  [View article]
I currently own 10 Jan 2013 $2.50 calls (bought for $0.25). Looking to add to my position, should I keep playing the options at this point or get the stock outright on dips?

  • Supervalu (SVU +9.2%) extends gains following a WSJ article that the company expects to begin sending out financial information in the coming days to prospective buyers, including buyout firms and other supermarket operators and distributors. SVU said last week it had hired bankers to look at selling either part or all of itself. (earlier)   [View news story]
What do we expect this company to be valued at at this point? $1B?

  • Why Nokia Isn't Eastman Kodak  [View article]
Mass market won't be jumping on Nokia until the Windows app store catches up to Android and iOS in quantity. Developer support is slowly coming over but it needs to happen faster. Remember, smartphones are like computers and game consoles. If you don't have the app support, it's dead in the water.

Long SVU as well. I'm curious why at this level are we not seeing more insider buying? You'd think they'd load up too if they truly believe in the turnaround story.

  • Among the new positions added by David Tepper's Appaloosa Management in Q1 are Bank of America (BAC), Citigroup (C) and Hartford (HIG). Tepper also likes a couple of mortgage REITs, taking new positions in Chimera (CIM) and Two Harbors (TWO). (13-F)   [View news story]
I'm selling monthly $9 calls on BAC while the Europe problem is in play.

Fortune mag ran a great article on STD's Chairman Emilio Botin last month. This company is very well managed with great global exposure. They also have a knack for M&A's on the cheap, turning those companies around and selling them at a premium. The Spanish fear too shall pass, and this stock will be on its way. Buy when others are fearful.

I dipped in a little as well around $6.70. A little early on my part, but I see this stock back up to $10 in 2-3 years.

Hopefully this pilot program becomes a success. With only 1,000 households in select states initially, the impact on the balance sheet will not be immediate. I do like the direction they are taking and hope that this will eventually be available to almost everyone under the Countrywide umbrella.
