I'm also a longitme rentech fan. Bought 2 years back at around 2 bucks and added during the 50 cents period. I like to stocjk not jhust for the technique but also for the versatility of the company and the common sense and steadiness of management. When airlines start using fuel for actual planes, the sky is the limit.
Pollution: Free Markets vs. Social Conscience [View article]
The simple truth is: morally humanity is not ready for a free marktet system. BTW The only scale on which to look at pollution that makes sense, is global. We're all in it together.
Well, that again is retrospect. We might also say that the unusual high number of dirty Chinese socks in August was a pretty good indicator of the current crisis. And then, who says the ratio has bottomed ? It might go to 4:1 while the economy picks up. Mathematical proof exists that the predictive power of what happens on the market is strong in the beginning, but then diminishes quickly. And you kow how quickly ? It is completely gone after 15 ........ minutes. So much for TA.

The gold-oil ratio only means something in retrospect. For predicting the future one may as well use the Belgian pedophiles - Chinese dirty socks ratio.

All these calculations are seriously flawed, becasue they don't take into consideration the zillions of dollars it will cost to fund the wars and the measures needed to survive as a species, that will result from further destrucion of our habitat, the planet. We need green cars now. Even at present prices they are a bargain compared with the alternative of jumping off the cliff.

Yes the following is true: 'But why don't willing businesses invest in these projects? Because, as Megalogenis well understands, they cannot pay for themselves.'
And why is this true ? Because until now we have failed to see the earth and ecosystems we 100% depend on as a valuable good, and have not based our tax system on this understanding. If you're looking at numbers only and forget life's minor details such as human beings, happiness, love, children, responsability, ethics, etc., I'm sute this article has some value.
An Investor's Look at Early Cycle Indicators [View article]
My gutfeeling is that it will take years to recover from this depression. And the reason is that the main driving force behind the US economy is people buying things. Materialism got us into this, and the quickest way out is enhanced materialism. But half of what is being produced nobody really needs. With the mood swinging toward a more spiritual approach to life, it may take a decade to reach a stable, green and ethically acceptable kind of economy. Too bad for my shares, but ultimately good for mankind.

Sure we need oil to get around. However, there are many - simultanious -developments that cut into demand: people want to save money non-hybrid cars are on their way out there's ethanol and biodiesel Rentech has produced its first barrels of diesel (from coal) for airlines there's a new president
I expect oil to go up again in 2009 and 2010, up to around 150 again, and from 2011 it will be downhill. The era of oil will be over much sooner than most people expect.

Very informative, thanks. I have invested in Aventine, because of their position as producer-distributor and the quality of the management. In spite of that, it's not going well. What non-corn ethanol companies would you suggest ?

Excellent article. (OK, perhaps I think that because it confirms what I have been thinking).
As for nuclear energy: the only thing that makes sense to me is to use renewable energy sources. The price of putting them to use will decrease and keep decreasing over over time, which cannot be said about any finite source, fossile or other. Uranium is just a way of putting off what we'll need to do soner or later. Sooner is better for us and for the planet.
