My educational background (B.Comm) is in finance and economics, and my work background is primarily in small business (up to ten employees). I am a Canadian who keeps up to date on micro and macroeconomic news, both for North America and the world. Having lived and worked in several countries, I highly recommend "boots on the ground" research, as well as taking advantage of contacts in other countries, who often have valuable input and a slightly different perspective on issues. I speak much better Spanish than I do French, despite French being Canada's other official language. Languages are an enormously valuable asset, and I think more people should make an effort to learn other languages, as it provides great insight into cultures. My work experience ranges from running a startup entertainment company to developing investment portfolios for institutional investors.
I have been an active investor for almost 20 years. My main focus is on high-yield stocks, particularly MLPs, and high-growth oil companies in the Eagle Ford shale. I have a portion of my portfolio allocated to short-term trading, with a focus on over-reactions to company news and directional plays on VIX-based ETFs. I am happy to answer just about any question sent my way, especially from those new to the stock market.
