OK. I'll bite. If the SLV is just a paper derivative (We know that's what it is.) Then what is the best way to invest in silver. Many mines are poorly run. Phvsical silver is heavy and rips your pockets. Other than SLV.............do you have other suggestions on how to invest in silver?

I would like to own O, but I keep wondering how they raised the dividend the last 2 quarters when their revenue and FFO were slowly dropping. Otherwise they look great.

to longoil,
The U.S. and Americans in general want cheap oil. It's just human (business) nature (ask Adam Smith) to buy things as cheaply as possible. National security is more important but out of sight when an individual company or individual is buying energy. The cheaper the better. Large businesses have always been willing to do business with "evil" people and governments no matter what is happening on the world stage. Those of us old enough remember that during WWII Japanese ships and shells fired at our guys were made with U.S. steel. It happened before and it will happen again.......this time with energy.

Yes. But the short positions might not be covered until the stock is $1.00 - $2.00. LDK management and for that matter the chinese Gov't can not be trusted to give any numbers based on what is real.
They lost any usefullness for me after the tech bubble burst. Before it burst at least they would "poke fun" at some of the market caps of companies making no profits and often through humor made the point that valuations were getting absurd. Since the bubble "burst"...nothing but noise from CNBC.

How does saying that "everything is better than the USD" square with the recent rise in the dollar against the currancies you are alluding to? Yes. The Yuan is used but you may notice that it is pegged to the dollar and therefore can be used as a substitute for USD. The dollar is weak but ALL the other currencies are getting weaker faster right now (Euro, CAD, etc). We are the best of the worst so to speak.........that's the bottom line right now. PS Prepare for cheaper vacations in Europe and the UK in about a year!

Joe Chase I hope you sold off some at the 23% jump. When it goes back down to it's previous level you could buy it back. Cramer effects dont last very long.
Should You Follow Warren Buffett’s Latest Moves? [View article]
I would point out that the average investor that follows and mimics Buffet's picks has not done well over the last 20 years or so. Because of the time lag between his moves and public knowledge, you are doomed to underperform him. I agree with Michael above. I wouldnt copy him, I would let him run my money by buying brk.a or brk.b

Be careful with CYNO. I own 2 med spas and cynosure's equipment is very good. BUT the best company and laser equipment leader seems to change about every 2 years. This is high priced fast moving technology. The various manufacturers have all had their day in the sun. None of their stocks would have made you money as a longterm holding. Altucher is smart but in his advice he is often wrong but never in doubt.
The government let most S & Ls fail during the last big credit/financial crisis. Why not banks this time? The sky has already fallen. The question now is who will survive and get back up. AIG, LEH and MER probably wont.
