  • Why Investing In Apple Is Riskier Than You Think [View article]
Apple will become like that company in Prometheus (terrible movie btw) that builds a trillion dollar spaceship at some point in the future (one of the only interesting conceits in the movie). And Tim Cook will be looking for the secret to immortality in far off star systems...

Or maybe we'll have Steve Jobs head in a jar - Futurama style!

    The possiblilities are endless.

  • The Galaxy S IV shows the contrast between Apple's (AAPL) minimalist approach to smartphones and Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) "maximalist" approach, writes Forbes' Anthony Wing Kosner. Whereas Apple carefully weighs the impact of product changes and lets the iPhone speak for itself, Samsung is constantly making big upgrades while promising its phones will change your life. Kosner thinks Apple's low-key approach resonates better in the U.S., but TechCrunch's John Biggs argues Samsung's approach has its strengths. "[Samsung] figured out that people didn’t care about specs. Instead, they care about use cases." [View news story]
Not sure European market is that lucrative compared to US and APAC. And I would not be surprised to see major inroads for AAPL in latin america over the next few years, economic growth certainly looks likelier there than in Europe

When 50% of the Euro 20 somethings are un or uderemployed they don't have a whole lot left over after buying football jerseys. Let samsung et al have the no margin pre paid market...

  • Meet The Latest Threat To Apple: The Samsung Galaxy S4 [View article]
Now ball is in AAPL's court and if I were Samsung, I think I'd be a little nervous.

I would love to see an SA article that has an analysis of the real impact of the $12 billion in marketing that SS spent last year with one goal -taking AAPl's market share. Phyrric victory.

  • Apple Is Being Psychologically Crushed By Samsung [View article]
If there is a "defensive" and desperate company it is Samsung. 12 billion in advertising last year alone is reckless and a huge hail mary pass. this is an enormous number - as has been pointed out, larger than AAPL/MSFT/HP and Coke COMBINED.

They have bought market share but for that amount of money, they should have done much much better. Now that the S4 is out we shall see but my guess is that any incremental market share they take from AAPL will be minimal and continue to be very very expensive.

Keep spending Samsung - Madison Ave and Paul Rudd need the dough!

And anectodally -the 25-50 yo crowd I hang out with are probably 85% iphones, more bb than androids in the balance. my guess is the the 18-24 crowd is the samsung demo - this is the group that won't do anything that the older group does...

  • Apple Is Being Psychologically Crushed By Samsung [View article]
    From the article -

"The combination is not a revolution after the S3 – but it’s a compelling evolution. "

That's the last line - the author seems to want to come up with something AMAZING but settles for compelling.

Leaving aside the tired cliche - evo/revolution - this sort of summary of the phone is exactly what Apple has been crucified for in the last year, that the 5 didn't cure cancer or double as a jetpack was a sign that the company was not innovative any more and on the way out.

  • Apple Needs To Spend Cash On R&D, Not Special Dividends [View article]
Samsung is outspending AAPL, MSFT, HPQ, and Coca Cola.

    Combined.

    $ 12 billion last year.

No doubt it has been effective, but is it a phyrric victory?

  • Jefferies' Peter Misek cuts his price target on Hold-rated Apple (AAPL) to $420 from $500. He's slashing his revenue numbers and seeing about a 25% chance the company misses Q1 guidance after Jefferies' recent supplier checks. "Historically when handset makers fall out of favor, they fall faster/further than expected." Shares -0.7% premarket. [View news story]

  • More on Apple: Raymond James reports many iPhone suppliers have "recently indicated an expectation of earlier seasonality," and takes it as evidence of a pending refresh. A big drop in shipments is expected for the June quarter, followed by Sep. quarter growth. The big question for Apple is whether an iPhone 5S that keeps a 4" display (as has been reported) will lead to a major sales pickup in the face of growing demand for larger displays, and the upcoming launch of Samsung's Galaxy S IV. However, an early 5S release would suggest an accelerated launch for an iPhone 6 rumored to have a bigger display. [View news story]

  • Apple Won't Buy BlackBerry [View article]
you didn't even read the article - the survey included data from 100,000 unique customers, and it also referenced a Good Technology survey that had iPhones in the top 5 slots for os enterprise activations. Blackberry wasnt' on the list of the 12 top phones!

if you have any data or a survey that refutes any of this "conjecture" would love to see it
