  • Misguided Interest In Dividend Paying Stocks [View article]
I am not an investing Guru - I do NOT know how to calculate and or interpret the data to be confident in "value-oriented strategies".

What I do know how to do as an investor that handles my own investments, and one who does NOT trust financial advisers (here in Canada they do NOT have to act in your best interest) - I do know how to pick stocks off the fab lists by Mr. Fish. Stocks which have done very well historically, and have returned to my portfolio this year better than 38%; yes I am including the dividends and the growth from DRIPping my dividends.

The DG method of investing is "good enough" for myself - one who does not have the time to constantly do research - I will have to live with the CAGR return of 20% that I have gotten over the last five years...poor me

Step One - Come up with a snappy article title
Step Two - Write inflammatory content
    Step Three - Cash cheque
Step Four - Write another tomorrow

I have been long MSFT for some time now, very pleased with my returns so far. I have not intention of dropping it anytime soon.

I am excited to see what develops from access to the patents - using overseas cash to get them.

Love the overseas cash aspect of this more and more - allows "repatriation" of cash to US via an asset purchase - love it.

My long term plan is to also have a position in both. Currently just hold KO - 'cause it tastes better! ;-)

Do your KO 52 week numbers take into account the 2/1 split in August?

  • Dripping Works: A Real-World Example [View article]
When I say - "re-think" - more in line with using the dividends to fund diversification - I don't think I will ever stop DRIP all together - it is too effective and helps keep costs down.

    Good points - love it.

As a smaller investor at this point - I would like to comment on Point #4.

Allowing my dividends to accumulate to fund another purchase is simply too slow - the fees of smaller purchases do not make it effective for me to buy in this manner.

This technique, for me also takes away some of the power of compounding that is afforded by DRIP every quarter.

When I get to point where I am bringing in the $1500.00 a month as you are - congrats - I may re-think things.

  • Still Transitioning To A Dividend Growth Portfolio [View article]
Good to read another fellow Canadian's story.

I too hold RY - has been a great one for me.

I know what you mean about moving to a more blue chip heavy portfolio - I am thinking of cashing in my big gains in AQN and moving to a less speculative choice.

TGH is a great stock - I wish I had kept on course - I originally had it around $31 - panicked when it dropped in to the $28 range - sold and funded my KO buy - just in time to see TGH vault all the way over $40 - sigh - oh well lesson learned to trust and be more patient... still KO was a solid purchase.

  • Coca Cola Is An Investment In Happiness [View article]
Something folks should also be aware of with KO

    From their Computershare brochure -

    Reinvestment of Dividends
    – Each dividend reinvestment will entail a
transaction fee of 5% of the amount
reinvested, up to a maximum of $2 plus
    $0.03 per share* purchased.
That said I am long KO myself.

  • Avoiding Tunnel Vision In Your Dividend Growth Investing [View article]
Wow - sick number of comments - most good food for thought though.

I thank you for outlining some of the concepts, F.C.F. etc. for those of us still on the climb up the learning curve, along with some idea of what you look for when looking at a stock.

    Thanks!
