"This holds true because the investor pays an immediately 20% capital gains tax on the dividend, ..."

Most people pay 15%, and others 0% ...
When an AGI is north of $400k/year, then sure it's 20%.

  • Apple: When Negatives Can Be Positives [View article]
    Don't forget the Newton ...

    from wikipedia ...
"A possible Newton revival was at one time a common source of speculation among the Macintosh user base; when patents for a tablet based Macintosh were applied for, rumor sites jumped at the possibility of a new tablet PC-style Macintosh. This later turned out to be the Apple iPad, which currently runs Apple's proprietary iOS System Software.

In September 2009, Michael Tchao, one of the Newton's marketing product champions, returned to Apple. Michael Tchao is now the VP of iPad Product Marketing."

My wife and I had a pair 0f "MessagePads" in the '93 days (aka still Skulley era).

    counterpoint,

The "hunch" I also agree with. I was just adding a query if there was any validation (e.g. faith based bias?).

I personally find this articles premise to be interesting in order to identify what are the "next" CCC's. It's a tough club to join and really easy to get booted out of!

I will also second my personal thanks to David Fish for the generosity of the work involved in providing the data because I also benefit from it.

"I hope get a valuation boost when they hit the 5 year mark because they will become "eligible" for those funds and d-g portfolios that sport this as a requirement."

One question I have is if there is any evidence of such a "boost"?
It seems logical, just not sure if there is any statistical evidence one way or another.

Mr. Fish, thank you for that "indicator".
AMGN, CSCO, SBUX, and STJ have already been nominated and might be worthy of another feather for consideration.

    Counterpoint,
I was terse about my concerns regarding ORCL, and would revise that they are "possibly" a challenger, but have doubts about becoming a contender.

The moat I was referring to is their core business dominance is eroding. They do have a commanding presence and the fiscal ability to transition. But, the hardware side is dying, and they don't have a compelling story regarding software (yet?).

I personally have no interest in going long or short either way.

    My take:
CSCO - Inevitable? Probably, but I don't see organic growth.
COH - Inevitable? Probably, because I consider it a Chinese Nike (someone show me the flaws).
LVS - Inevitable? Possibly, but I hate the debt.
AMAT - Inevitable? Probably, I think they have enough of a moat.
ORCL - Inevitable? IMO not likely. Their moat is drying up.

I'll add some data to aid analysis:

    number of increases(offered) = 3(3)
    annual dividend history = 0.32, 0.60, 0.92
    payout ratio = 26%
    profit margin = 21.22%
    operating margin = 30.99%
    total cash = 1.09B
    total debt = 23.97M
levered free cash flow = 1.06B
