Thanks for the reply; much appreciated. You are correct that almost nobody includes their fees, taxes, etc. It simply paints an incomplete picture. I'm not sure why people leave out this information. Perhaps its padding the numbers? Perhaps its laziness? I don't know...and I regret that it may appear that I've singled you out. That is not my intention.

As far as the numbers you are willing to supply, why not just put the final number out there? After all the fees and taxes, etc., what is the final % profit? To me, it is all that really matters.

And again, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Why do you not include taxes and transaction fees? They are unavoidable. In my opinion, you are leaving out an important part of the over all equation. To my way of thinking, this article is incomplete and borders on misleading because you do not include a large portion of the numbers in your results.

I work for IBM and have been buying shares for the last year. It's been a good decision so far. Will do more research into TIBX, but might need to sell something in in order to buy it...hmmmmm

  • A Look At 10 Of Cramer's Valuation-Based Contrarian Picks [View article]
I've made more money based on some of his thoughts than I've lost. But I am not crazy...I don't follow everything the man says. I'm still hoping I didn't make a mistake buying SIRI. I think I'm going to get out of it if I can get back to even. Its decreased 3% since I bought it. But DAN, SBUX, CINF, and SPLS are all up nicely. I'm ok with Cramer.

What stop, if any have you recommended for KOG? I'm up 70% for 500 shares and 6% on 100 shares. I have only held it about 6 months, so taxes are a concern. Isn't selling now the same as selling after a year at a significantly lower price?

My thinking is that if I hold on to it for a year, unless the price per share gets into the $9.00 range I'm going to be ok. And there is some chance that the price will actually increase or stay at about the level it is now.

    Your thoughts, please?

Thank you for the reply. And what about letting cash sit when it could be invested at no charge in something with the potential to grow? Why not? Thanks again!

I'm new to this and am unclear about the tax ramifications of taking my dividends in cash (as opposed to automatically reinvesting them). Does one get dinged by the IRS when doing this? And since $1000.00 will take a while for me to accumulate, would it make sense to automatically invest my dividends into some type of commission free, dividend yielding ETF like SCHB until it reaches $1,000 in worth?

Thanks, great article. I intend to study it more intensively over the next few days and come up with a plan of my own.
