  • France Going To War Against GE... And I'm Rooting For France [View article]
@jotenn I share your sentiments exactly. Alstom current energy customers would benefit from the array of additional products and services that GE could also provide that Alstom does not. I am with Jeff Immelt! I believe he knows how to best make everyone comfortable with GE's modus operandi!!

  • General Electric Investors Angered By Siemens Block Of Alstom Deal [View article]
From what I have read so far what Sieman's is offering in exchange, the rail assets are assets that are not worth much and even Germany's primary rail lines do not purchase Sieman's rail products. Why would France want to be # 1 in a lousy product area.

I think we need some patience here. Alstom will give GE entre to new markets with Altom's power transmission and nuclear products. Along with that Alstom customer list GE will be able to offer all of Alstom's customers the broad range of GE industrial solutions - something that GE does not now have. ON top of that Jeff Immelt is picking up Alstom for a pretty good price. Europe is growing and GE needs a bigger presence vs. Seimans' etc. If you can't repatriate the pverseas money due to tax consequences I say spend it overseas on something accretive and synergistic to GE's current manufacturing operations.

Personally I think a loot of what the French government is saying is just posturing. Hollande gets it!! His government cannot be perceived as just giving away Alstom to the Germans. The past 200 years of French-German history precludes that!! But Hollande wants to come away as having fought hard for French jobs and the French economy - that's fine it works. GE already works with Safran, a French company, on jet engines and GE already employs thousands of French citizens. Minister Mounteborg is going to look awefully foolish if the French government okays a Seimans deal and on May 7 the President of Seimans announces huge layoffs everywhere!! If those layoffs are in Germany and the jobs at Alstom are protected do you think for a moment Angela Merkel will be happy - I think not. My bet is in the end GE wins but all of the psoturiong is important!!!

  • Why General Electric's Deal For Alstom Will Energize Your Portfolio [View article]
I don't believe that the French will be willing to let one of their prized conglomerates go to Germany and Siemans. GE has been involved in Europe for a long time. If GE can provide the French some assurance that GE won't slash and burn Alstom's employment then I believe the French will opt for an American/GE solution. Make no mistake about it though GE will want to take costs out even more. I think Jeff Immelt is extremely shrewd in picking up manufacturing and customer assets at this deep a discount. Obviously Alstom needs help and further restructuring. Alstom and GE make a good fit!!

Please do me a favor in the future! When writing these articles please reference a good book on diction and correct grammar. Blackstone has way too good a reputation in finance and investments to settle for this. Thank you.

I am with BuyandHold. The level of antagonism and anxiety about GE just mkes it all the more of a terrific investment. I do believe the best is yet to come from GE particularly once the GE Capital IPO gets going.

About that blackmail - that is the absolute truth!! I was hoping that Mr. Immelt would call me for a loan - I would have offered a much better interest rate.
