  • Gray Television: The Unlikely Winner Amid Adverse Industry Regulation [View article]
Great article Johannes. This is a very under-followed company in this sector and seems to get lumped into conclusions drawn from the new regulations enacted by the FCC which you briefly mentioned. Another thing to take into consideration is that this year is a gubernatorial election year in the majority of the country. Gray Television managed to keep revenues and earnings relatively inline in 2013 compared to 2012's presidential year with little revenue coming from campaign spending in 2013 (off-year). I believe this midterm election year will bring enough revenue to compensate for what little income comes in the form of JSAs to GTN. In addition, the FCC's ruling allows for a two year unwinding period of JSAs in the event they exceed the new regulatory ceilings. Ironically enough, this leads into 2016, another election year.

    Again, excellent article!

  • Britain mulls plain packaging for cigs [View news story]
Kids will want to smoke regardless of how it's packaged. Doesn't matter what color, font or logo is used... This seems like a politician's disconnected solution from reality to further their career rather than addressing any issue. More of a non-solution if anything. It would ABSOLUTELY lead to higher rates of smuggling and counterfeiting which is already a big problem in the US.

  • Plug Power: Is This Time Different? [View article]
I agree PLUG has yet to prove it is profitable. The timeframe for profitability is always pushed off after every earnings report. The Wal-Mart "deal" has been over-promoted in my opinion. Additionally, the same features of the technology promoted by the company are chanted throughout social networks and blogs in a similar fashion to parishioners repeating the words of clergymen. This does not make the technology profitable.

This also isn't the first time PLUG has experienced such price moves in a short period of time and the volume alone should be worrisome to investors. What happens when there are no more bulls? Technically and fundamentally the company has no support for this stock price and I am not quite sure how people can sleep at night thinking this will go to infinity.

The case for financial institutions purchasing large quantities of the stock is stale at best as well. This is common practice as banks run out of shares to lend to investors looking to short the stock on any scale (short-term or long-term). As anyone knows, these positions incur interest and if the price moves up or down, the banks profit.

With no concrete support for the price action from any angle you look at it, I consider this outright gambling. I congratulate anyone who has profited thus far as it is well-deserved considering the huge amount of risk taken on. Personally, I enjoy my nights' rest, all 8 hours, every night.

  • Yahoo testing app install ads [View news story]
Yeah, Yahoo is the biggest laggard in terms of innovation and creating revenue opportunities. They're always scrambling to catch up to everyone else. I'll keep saying this 'til I'm blue in the face. I'm sure this will be great for the stock and all but some day people will demand more than "just enough to get by."

  • Can Under Armour Continue To Be A Growth Stock? [View article]
Under Armour is missing a gigantic market that Nike/Adidas/Reebok/Puma and every other sports apparel company has - their "lifestyle" brands. There's a very good growth opportunity for Under Armour to take a stab at but it would really take years for their footwear/apparel to gain traction with hardened Nike fans lining up weekly at stores for their products. Right now, I feel like Under Armour is pulling a Yahoo-type strategy by acquiring companies and releasing technology one step behind the rest of the industry. Until something significant comes out of their "R&D," the stock looks very overvalued in terms of brand and market traction. Great read, I will agree that there is some opportunity here but the task at hand for Under Armour is like trying to convert Roman Catholics to Judaism.

  • BlackBerry Short Interest Falls Off The Cliff [View article]
I think the best way to play this movement is in small positions and tight stops. While short interest decreased mildly, it should be noted that the covering took place around the last day of 2013 which is not out of the ordinary. I still fail to see how Blackberry is going to become profitable. John essentially just stated what BBRY has been doing up until this point in his own words. If people are sticking around for a potential short squeeze, I wish you best of luck. Penny stocks are cheaper if you pursue this method.

  • Deeply Undervalued IXYS Is Our Top 2014 Value Pick With Target Of $22.5 [View article]
Only a little over 3% for debt to capital! It trades relatively in line with the industry but a lot of other companies have taken on at 5x more debt to achieve the same results. Definitely some strong indicators here. I will definitely keep an eye on this one for any weakness come mid year. Strong earnings projections too! I just hope that estimates out there aren't set too high.

  • AMD And Apple Are Firing Up The Competition [View article]
The sales are nice, but investors want growth. You will get better sales picking up the scraps which makes for great options spreads around earnings but all AMD is doing is selling more of the same products in the same markets. The demand for these peaks around the initial launch of the products requiring their components and tapers off there on out. It happened to nvidia with the last console cycle and is surely to happen again. AMD needs to branch into new markets and new products outside of their niche customer base to even compete with the likes of Intel or similar tech companies. I have actively traded AMD over the last year to my advantage due to this realization.

  • AMD And Apple Are Firing Up The Competition [View article]
This is very old information. This came out before news of AMD's deals with MS and SNE. In fact, this news already priced into the stock months many months ago. While the specs of the components AMD is providing are rather impressive, AMD has to sell 2 of their graphics cards for every Mac Pro. Meanwhile, INTC has 1 Xeon processor in every Mac Pro. In addition, Steam Machines are touted as new consoles looking to take over the living room. While they're impressive machines, they are just custom linux based pc's that sit in your living room with a fancy case. AMD might see some nice reports this year on their earnings, I think anything beyond that time frame is still worrisome considering the lack of exposure to the mobile market.
