Worn out 123, please "fast-forward" to the year 2013.
    We did stop building Nukes.
We found a new source of energy for the next 100 years, it's called "Shale Gas"
Hopefully our Children won't be dealing with heaps of worn out, discarded Lithium batteries along with the Nuclear waste.

In my opinion, the current Administration has already decided that development of our energy resources in North America by the private sector is not in the interest of the common good (or shall we say in the interest of some large "contributors.")
Examples of this are the delayed or denied approval of many projects, such as Pipelines, LNG export facilities, New Federal Leases for E&P, etc.
Fortunately, the private sector has proceeded to grow our resources with or without Government help. Ten years ago, the average person had never heard the term "Fracing" and now it is a daily topic of discussion (for good or bad) and for a brief period last year the US actually exceeded the Saudi daily crude production. It will be interesting to watch this all play out over the next several years.

Richard, thank you for the well researched and descriptive article.
I'm an engineer by trade and its hard for me to follow the "numbers," but you make a very good point about the "fixed" rate of return from a fully operating facility. If I read you correctly the LNG facility is no different than a transcontinental pipeline and all profits are essentially based on tolling agreements.
When I compare this project to the LNG facilities in Indonesia, I can see Cheniere's huge advantages in regards to product with associated infrastructure already in place as you described. They have certainly snatched Victory from the jaws of Defeat by quickly developing a plan to reverse the direction of LNG, and most importantly, receiving RARE approval for export from the current Administration.
It is certainly noteworthy that this one facility is disrupting and changing Global LNG pricing models and I'm sure this fact has altered more than a few plans for natural gas and lng facilities around the globe.
While I know this article is not an investment recommendation, I'd would really appreciate your opinion on the advantage of owning shares in CQP versus LNG.

Too funny! Talk about coincidences!!! I inspected the two HUGE LNG tanks that Cabot was building on Staten Island on behalf of the Insurance Company (Factory Mutual) around 1975. The walls were over 10 feet thick made with special reinforced concrete and 1,000s of miles of special wire wrapped around them with a robot winding machine.
The roofs were special steel with 15 foot of fiber glass insulation hanging beneath them. Fire protection consisted of carbon dioxide flooding nozzles spaced around the rim. I'm hazy on all these details but the design criteria was to withstand a direct hit by a 747 aircraft. One tank was completed and the other was nearly done until NYC woke up to the fact that huge Tankers would be sailing through the harbor to offload. An analysis was made of a worse case scenario ship spill and subsequent vapor cloud. Millions of New Yorkers were exposed in one of the models and all the permits were cancelled. It cost Cabot Corp. unknown millions.
Meanwhile (as you know) tankers sail up the Charles River, right through Boston on a regular basis.
BTW, I got lucky and was following LNG stock when the whispers started about reversing the new facility from import to export and bought in at $2. I sold at $7 and never looked back until now... $25 Ouch! Go Figure.

  • Sailing The Seas Of Natural Gas With Golar LNG [View article]
Herr, the vessel may sink but it's cargo won't. In fact any escaping liquid will not "freeze," it will vaporize and if in contact with water, it will vaporize even faster. A cloud is formed and hopefully will disperse before it finds an ignition source. This type incident is of great concern because with the right air mixture, a fire can lead directly to a vapor cloud explosion.

That is true except for tankers that supply Distrigas right outside the center of Boston. In fact, tankers sail on a regular basis up the Charles River (through dense population) off load product at the Distrigas Terminal for re-gasification. During these periods the river is closed to other traffic by the Coast Guard.

  • Cheniere's Train Is Fully Gassed Up [View article]
Geminvestor, I think you missed the real opportunity $10 ago on LNG. By the time first shipments are commenced in late 2015, LNG stock will be fully valued at $30. I don't foresee much price change once operations are initiated, since the contracts for each train are long term (20 years) and profit margins are locked in (from my understanding.)
CQP is still a good buy with a nice dividend, and I think is undervalued in relation to LNG (I'd love to see an article that compares these 2 securities in regards to future valuations.)
Export of LNG has tremendous potential and great back ground information can be obtained by reading the history of PERTAMINA and LNG Badak.

  • The FERC rejects a proposed extension of Enbridge's (ENB; EEP) $2.5B Sandpiper pipeline project that would move oil from North Dakota to Wisconsin and Minnesota, saying ENB's proposed rate structure was not supported by existing regulations. ENB has considered the project a key part of its plan for overall expansion in North America. [View news story]
    "One hand washes the other"
Obama and "his team" have blocked the development of USA Nat Gas & Petroleum at every turn. While doing He has cost this Country countless new jobs and helped increase the cost of fuel for the average American. His LEGACY will be one of HUGE budget deficit and a HUGE increase in the nation's "entitlement" programs.

  • Cisco Systems, Inc.: Profitability Analysis [View article]
I guess "numbers" speak for themselves but you are addressing the "PAST."
I don't understand "Bollinger Bands." What do they have to do with the near term profitability of the Sector that CSCO operates in and what does CSCO have to offer to keep up with (and/or) BEAT the competition?

Smurf, sorry for my delayed reply, I just returned to this article. My only other shipping company of "Long Term" hold status is TGP (TeeKay LNG Shipping.) I built a large position in this stock in 2009 for the excellent dividend and the solid number of long term shipping contracts they held. Liquid Natural Gas has always interested me as an easy way to transport a large amount of "Energy," and I knew that Japan and South Korea were large consumers. I flipped a lot of the shares (at about $40) right after the Japan EQ in 2011 as the news peaked about their need for replacement power.
    I subsequently re-loaded.
LNG shipping is a bit confusing right now with all the contracts for new construction, causing some to say there will be an "over supply" of these ships after 2017. I personally don't believe there will be a drop in contract fees so I'm still happy with TGP (with a few shares of GLOG.)
PS: I've also been in a long position in CQP which I acquired when they first approached the US Dept of Energy for export approval. I would have done better if I bought the Parent Company "LNG," but I'm a dividend buyer.
