  • Safety in Tech? You Betcha -- Barron's [View article]
Ralph's comment makes sense to me as well. Since the tech industry so easily outsources its manpower, and to exagerate and say the dollar is closing in on the rupee and yuan, the tech brains required for industry stability have got to be domestic. I do think, though, that mobile provides stability for tech more than any other aspect. The dollar can gain against other currencies if mobile locks under it sufficiently. My question is what monopolies other than that of Big Media does mobile tear into?

  • Intel vs. Negroponte: Debating Implementation Of The One Laptop Per Child Project [View article]
Well, governments are easy to sell to. They'll take money over a lot of things.

My belief for the corporate initiatives of OLPC-style laptops and cell phones is to uncover the highlights of the global talent pool. Good engineers are born, not made. The big companies are desperate to find engineers before anybody else does. Labor is scarce, corporate bull is not.

  • AMD in Trouble: Needs to Raise Cash & Develop Products [View article]
No winners here. Nobody's going to win this price war. Both of these big parties will lose big. The semiconductor industry will no longer be extraordinarily profitable. Even if one of the two "loses," it would just mean that all their intellectual property and other assets are distributed to a wealth of smaller would-be competitors, which makes competition all the worse for the "winner."
