  • More Bad News For Stock Buybacks [View article]
    Tim,

There is an etf that invests in companies that deliver on the promise that buy backs imply--TTFS. The name of this etf is descriptive: Trim Tabs Float Shrink. In other words TTFS invests in companies who actually reduce their share count over time, not just buy shares for purposes of executive compensation.

    Check it out.

Another way to participate while mitigating the risk of owning only a single BDC or a couple and without having to do extensive due diligence is the new etf BIZD which holds about twenty-five BDC companies in varying proportions.

  • Time For A BDC Swap: One Stock To Sell And Another To Buy [View article]
To me one critical issue is how any BDC values its investments. If FSC values its investments conservatively and PSEC, which I am long, less so, that makes any comparison less valid. From that perspective management's track record is paramount. I am also concerned with how concentrated a BDC's portfolio is both by number of investments and by industry.

  • After The Election Buy These Stocks And Watch Clean Energy [View article]
    Marc,

As an alternative to CLNE you might want to take a look at TA. It trades at a PE of 4, an EV/EBITDA of 1.33 as per Yahoo Finance, and has a deal in place with one of your picks, Shell, to provide natural gas fueling at its truck stops. I also see it as a potential buyout by its privately-held competitor Pilot.
