  • Looking Beyond Nuance's Transition Pains [View article]
He hasn't. He acquired both Accelerad and Notable Solutions in the last four months. Look 'em up. No press releases for either, but they went down. The acquisitions total in the 100+ million dollar range.

"We should also mention that there are some modest acquisitions, primarily in healthcare, that are in flight, that will make some contribution in the back half of the year."

More acquisitions to come is a sign that Nuance is not engaging in buyout talks for itself.

I also agree that Nuance is a heavily misunderstood name. It is constantly referenced because of its work with AAPL, but brings so much more to the table. Two key growth drivers: NINA (enterprise virtual assistant) and Voice Biometrics (authentication measures being considered and adapted by banks worldwide).

It has been criticized by its monster M&A spree over the last 9 years, but I actually think it could acquire a few more companies to seal the deal re: its Speech Recognition dominance.

  • Icahn ups Nuance stake again, shares +1.2% AH [View news story]
Well the annual shareholder meeting is only about six weeks away, right?

    Something's brewing that's for sure.

Also, a little curious as to why NUAN has yet to announce their 2013 Annual Financial Analyst Day, which had already occurred by this time last year.

I can answer this by starting you off by this quote from a September 2013 Forbes article: "You’ve talked, slowly and loudly, to Nuance before. Known for its Dragon Dictation products, its speech technology is also behind the iPhone’s virtual assistant Siri, Samsung’s S-Voice, automated call centers and virtual online assistants for airlines and top-tier banks, and it’s on the majority of the world’s smartphones." http://onforb.es/1hzHqJq

Now think about its latest product innovations: voice biometrics (lots of enterprise potential and growth that has barely been tapped, but can easily be marketed to many current partners; think of all those relationships with banks and their automated call systems), voice ads (a brand new advertising market that is helping ad agencies win awards; google for more info on that), dragon tv (think of the recent partnership with DirecTV), dragon drive (every passing year introduces more and more car models with voice recognition infotainment systems; and nuance has relationships with bmw and mercedes already)

All of the above, and guess what? Haven't even mentioned their fastest growing business. HEALTHCARE.

This stock WILL reach the 50s in two years, possibly less. Do you have the patience?

  • Icahn ups Nuance stake to 18.72%, shares +1.5% AH [View news story]
NUAN's EPS would blow away wall street estimates if management's compensation package would not have been so undeservedly high. Icahn knows restructuring executive compensation packages, and shedding Nuance's red-headed stepchild of an imaging business will substantially increase shareholder value.

Nuance will not run with Paul Ricci as CEO; at least no if he remains with the same compensation package and same disappointing results.
