  • Avoid Barrick Gold [View article]
"1+2+3=cat". I couldn't agree more. I do own a bunch of precious metal stocks, including this one, but I pretty much agree with every negative thing you say about the whole sector. To me, the biggest negative is the diehard gold bugs themselves. They are ruining any chance of this trade going mainstream and they don't even know it.

I absolutely hate being on the same bandwagon with these people but I waited and waited for them all to capitulate and then I finally decided that there is some large segment of crazies who will go to their graves still crazy no matter how much contrary evidence flies in their faces. I just had to hold my nose and jump in. Who knows, might regret it or might not.

So by the end of next year you are expecting gold to "at least" double or triple. How much confidence do you have in that expectation? If it happens, I have no doubt that IAG will perform well, as will every other gold stock on the planet. But I'm trying to figure out if this call on IAG is based on gold doubling or tripling ("at least"), or is IAG a good buy even if gold flatlines or goes down?

That sounds reasonable except for the fact that metal enthusiasts have been saying it since late 2011.

The pitchforks are coming out. All corporate mgmts should take note. This is maybe their final opportunity to do what's right before they are forced to.

  • Risk Reward Remains Firmly Skewed To The Downside In The S&P 500 [View article]
It seems like everyone believes this market is crazy, but I've seen real crazy and this market isn't even in the same universe as the crazy that happened in the late 90's. Either people have forgotten or they weren't there because there is no way the current environment comes close to approaching the insanity that took place back then. None of which is to say that this bull mkt will continue until it gets that nutty. I'm sure it won't. Those are once in a lifetime events.

  • Seabridge Gold: Possible Worries About Cash And Dilution [View article]
Did China and India like gold from 1980 - 2001? Because if they did, it didn't seem to have much effect on the price for 20 years. But I guess this time it will? Why am I skeptical?

You mean like it did in 2008? I realize we can all invent some scenario as to why it'll go up but so far all those scenarios have been dead wrong so why should anyone have any faith that this one will be correct?

  • Opposition grows against pay package for Barrick Gold's Thornton [View news story]
Just the fact that John Thornton needs to be told that his compensation is insane, that he can't figure it out for himself, is ludicrous. He might as well wear a billboard declaring himself to be a morally depraved dolt.

It seems to me there is a great opportunity for some brave CEO to do the right thing and take a very public stand against this type of behavior. His CEO buddies won't appreciate it but the general public would be happy to see some leadership for a change.

  • McEwen Mining says 7K oz. of gold concentrate robbed from Mexico mine [View news story]
I guess we can expect gold miners' all-in costs to start including the employment of a small army to protect the goods. And if the price of gold ever goes up you can be sure it will become more difficult and more costly to keep it secure.

Next thing you know the Virgin Mary will appear at the minesite which will then be permanently closed and turned into a religious shrine. Actually that's probably a more lucrative business than mining.
