  • Clean Energy Fuels' LNG Strategy Is Crumbling [View article]
Below is a worthy read for those invested in the outcomes of LNG vs. CNG and its purveyors. Most haven't a clue what the differences are between the fuels, how they're used and / or why transport co's will chose one or the other, let alone the general public. Clearly there's a place for both fuels, much like a diesel vs gas engine currently. The choice depends on your use (regional vs national, topography, weight, frequency of use, etc.) and the latent power available in each fuel type.

Lastly, not many commented on GTLS (Chart Industries). Diversified cryogenic applications.

Are you sure about that? Where are you getting that from? Most conversions require the stock price to be higher than the conversion price.

  • Reflections On The Current State Of Apple [View article]
You set off a firestorm of replies to your post, Bret. All's been covered in the comments discussion. G-d help us if Tim COOKS us on earnings day. Or he'll be a hero if he sides with his investors. What worries me is his comments last month that no-one should expect to get rich quick being an Apple investor. I fear he'll do as little as possible on the bucket list you set forth (which I thought was awesome sans the special one time divy, the reasons as already discussed). So my sleeplessness comes from the notion that Tim might make the few shorts VERY rich by doing little.

What sayeth you and your audience to that?

  • The NuStar Energy Big Dividend Looks Shaky [View article]
mgmt committed to the payout and they know full well the CDF shortfall. Returning to the toll (pipeline) biz is sound and the divestitures of the non-related businesses funded the transition. Granted they wasted some money and time in the process and that's why it's still trading in the $40's vs. $60's if they had made the 'right moves' 2 years ago.
For now, collect the 9% tax preferred and leave it alone. In 2 years you'll find the stock back at $60+ when the US decides to exploit our energy reserves (Ford, etal).

  • Occidental Petroleum: Unloved And Undervalued [View article]
I didn't know about chanos either. But that's likely the last of the reasons to go long. I too went long (buy/write) given the yield and vol weeks ago. I think we may get even better entry points in the weeks ahead, so the secret here is to always have some powder to deploy.
HES too is undervalued, insider buys... for the same reasons.
But the best deal was likely CRUS, isn't that a favorite of yours too, Bret?

  • Chesapeake Energy (CHK) agrees to sell a substantial majority of its remaining midstream assets to Access Midstream Partners (ACMP) for ~$2.16B; the assets are located primarily in the Marcellus, Utica, Eagle Ford, Haynesville and Niobrara shale plays. CHK also anticipates completing the sale of its remaining midstream assets by the end of Q1 2013 for ~$425M. CHK +0.3% AH. [View news story]
E&P not MLP. Planned sale that reduces debt. Yawn. If NG goes to $6+ as some expect, then CHK will have made all the right moves (finally). Tell Obama to turn the thermostats down on global warming in WDC and the 13 original colonies and NG may get there.

Been reading/researching all day and I can't find the reason for the sell off. Was happy to pick it up plus the dividend coming too!

  • Einhorn vs. Chipotle, Round 2: Greenlight Capital's bearish stance on Chipotle (CMG +1.2%) doesn't budge an inch with the firm continuing to hold on to its view that the new menu from Taco Bell (YUM +0.2%) will be a major drag on the restaurant chain's sales. A survey by the hedge fund found a high percentage of Chiptole customers sampled the Cantina Bell menu after its launch, with 50% rating it equal or better fare. (Greenlight Capital letter .pdf) [View news story]
Suggesting Einhorn is credible (as the inference is here) will be dangerous to your wealth. His interests can not be congruent with your own.
