  • Plains All American: A Strong And Safe MLP [View article]
Look at the 1 year chart. Sustained downtrend since topping out at $60 in May. Keeps making lower lows and I don't see this ending once rates go up. First their cost of capital increases and second, do people really want a low growth MLP yielding 5% when they will soon have other safer yield plays, none of which have the headaches of K1s.

I much prefer my "junk" MLP (somebody else's quote above), MEMP which pays 11% and is up 6% in the past 3 weeks since I entered. Pipers seem to be a good long term play but PAA has long been an over-priced market darling that may just be coming back to reasonable valuations. Time will tell but seems like better places to invest unless this gets sub $40.

Sub $40 may seem crazy to PAA pumpers but I have seen commenters foam hate at those who suggested a sub $50 price earlier in the year.

  • Fifth Street Finance Corp. Still Won't Cover Its Dividend [View article]
I suspect a lot of people late to the party are either panicking or are using FSC to take a tax loss against gains. I see this every year with stock that are in decline mode in latter part of the year. Usually, they get oversold and go up quick the following year.

Sticking with position as it looks oversold now. Hopefully the company is smart enough NOT to undertake a dilutive offering at these prices. Other BDCs starting to decline as well so while FSC's decline is one of the worst, the whole sector looks to be underperforming this past month.

Two other MEMP articles written by others in past few weeks and this is by far the most useless and inaccurate article I have ever read on this site.

  • Halcon Resources: The Roller Coaster Continues And New Lows Should Not Be Ruled Out [View article]
Spot on. GS takes short position, then issues a sell order, watches shares decline and then cover short of easy 20% 3 day gain. Desk guy I know says GS covered most of their short Thursday. Trade of 350,000 shares was put through near close on 11/21.

I've trimmed but will add on any big weakness. Look for more selling in December as people sell their losers and take losses to offset gains. Floyd better have great #s in 2014 or this will be dead money.

Well said. I like the risk/reward for HK here and added significantly today. Further weakness will not surprise nor disappoint me as this is a long term holding. Made a small fortune with Floyd in the past when lots of naysayers existed so I follow the money and see lots of insiders buying HK. Enough said.

  • Weekly COMEX Gold Inventories: Huge Friday Sell Order Equivalent To 70% Of Gold Registered For Delivery [View article]
After reading this article, makes me think a large investment in physical gold is a good idea. With so many households with little to no savings, the masses will be voting in favor of a "supper tax" or wealth tax here within 10 years. And wealthy will not mean millionaires; anyone above the norm could be subject to this tax.

  • Amazon gets bearish Barron's treatment [View news story]
Used to order a lot from Amazon because it was easy an prices were often reasonable. Sales tax now being charged on all purchases and we never buy anything from Amazon; a couple more key strokes through the find.com, google shopping, shopwiki or several other sites and we can find what we want tax FREE. Checkout even easier by using Paypal and avoiding having to enter personal data. When people realize the Amazon business model is broken, the stock cratering will be a great business school case study.

Interesting take on Tesla. No position but hate to see retail chasers get crushed when valuation returns to normal.

  • Halcon Resources announces filing of shelf registration [View news story]
Could not agree more. I'm VERY long and not concerned about short term price. However, would it hurt Floyd and the Board to work with large holders and make sure that nothing is done optically to further depress the stock. Kind of surprised to see an S-3 but the optimist in me says it may lead uneducated, weak hands to sell next week and I'll add to position cheaper.

  • Halcon Resources announces filing of shelf registration [View news story]
You may want to read this. There is no cashless option exercise and NO insiders are selling. This is a common and required process when large holders want to be able to sell restricted shares in the future. Usually done when the restricted holders expect the stock to improve in value in the future and they want to be able to reduce their position at that point rather than file the S-3 then and wait to sell later.

  • Proceed With Caution With Calumet Specialty Products Partners [View article]
$CLMT Been looking at this for a while but chart has completely broken down. Numerous downgrades and fact that David Tepper at Appaloosa is trimming his large position makes me think folks know div coverage for next qtr will be bad and/or an offering is in the works. Likely headed below $25 even if overall market is good.
