keeping up with inflation? how on earth can one keep up with inflation by owning physical gold? there is no correlation between the two. it is an utter myth. gold was in a long term bear market for decades while inflation was humming along.

  • Gold to post worst year in over 3 decades [View news story]
Gold is down because there is no discernible inflation, in fact, if anything, one of the dogs of war, deflation, is afoot. why? There is no velocity of money, and the politicians seek to raise taxes at every turn. The policy of the Eurozone, inspired by the German fear of hyper inflaton, is causing the rise of deflation and a collapsing euro economy. I n the USA, the banks are not lending, individuals are not borrowing to any significant degree, and thus velocity of money is down, which is death to any aspiring inflation. The fear mongering about the spectre of hyper inflation haunting the land is based on a complete misunderstanding of how that has taken place in history. The two instances we have in the last century, and only two instances of hyper inflation, occurred in revolutionary governments which had no international market for their debt issuance, and therefore sought to raise funds simply by the act of printing money. The two in question were the Weimar Republic and Zimbabwe under Mugabe.

  • Apple strikes iPhone deal with China Mobile, sales start on Jan. 17 [View news story]
there ought to be a massive shift from lesser iphones and androids to the new iphones. chinese are very status conscious, and they look down on the koreans. when given a legitimate choice, they will choose the iphone if they can muster up the yuans. it is estimated that 10% of chm subscribers are of the upper class and can easily afford the unsubsidized price. it is this upper class that is the most status conscious. assume, conservatively, that 75 million can pony up the yuan, and at the margin another 5%. that totals @110 million new natural buyers, and they will not be patiently standing in line. there will be a massive crush to acquire the iphone, and apple's manufacturing base in china will be hard pressed to keep up with the demand. to borrow a phrase from americana, and adapt it to the asian modernity, it will be an iphone or bust!

  • BAML: Apple/China Mobile hopes too high [View news story]
every analyst I have read ignores the cultural bias of the Chinese people which is an inferior regard for Korea, the people and its products. china regards itself as being on the highest rung of ladder when considering Asian cultures, and there is and always has been antipathy toward regarding others in Asia as equals. Japan occupied Korea for 2 generations, and brutally, and carried with it a racial hatred for the Koreans. that is one of the reasons why apple has 75% of the market in Japan. the Chinese do not hate the Koreans, they just look down on them, considering them of an inferior culture. the Chinese are very status conscious, and there will be a massive shift from the Samsung androids to the iphone for all the reasons listed above, as well as the not so inconsequential superiority of the iphone to anything Samsung has to offer. look for apple to capture the same percentage in china as it did in Japan, and enjoy the ride. I can't wait to see the looks on all these ill educated, narrowly educated analysts when the numbers begin rolling in far in excess than even the most sanguine forecasts.

  • Apple Investors Should Temper Their Expectations [View article]
if you know anything about chinese culture, you will know that the chinese look down on the koreans and consider an apple phone a status symbol as well as a way to exercise their sense of superiority over the koreans. japanese hate koreans and vice versa, witness their @40 year brutal occupation of korea in the first half of the 20th century. this is one of the reasons apple enjoins a 75% market share in Japan. THE SAME MARKET SHARE WILL BE REALIZED IN CHINA. think of that. that puts apple's sales in china for 2014 @40 million units, easily. there will be massive shifting away from samsung to apple, as well as massive brand new purchases of phones now that china mobile has gone 4g.

  • Apple Breaks Out [View article]
bond trader for forty years. writer of political economic stories. writer of literary fiction.

i think the one thing i see lacking in all these postings is the lack of appreciation of how emotion can be the driving locomotive in a stock breakout. passion, emotion, will drive away all the presumed technical hurdles and make them appear as paper mache dolls. when facts such as those iterated above are in fact the driver of that emotion, than it is hard to quantify what in fact is a qualitative change. thus, like a spring coiled ever tighter, once released, the power manifested is difficult to gauge with a traditional meter. absent some unforeseen national/international event of monstrous proportion, this stock could double in the coming 12 months, and maybe even a lot sooner.

  • Did we miss a major central bank tightening overnight? The precious metals sector is lit up bright red following the Fed's addition to QE and what looks like the promise of ZIRP for at least 2-3 more years. GLD -1.1%, SLV -2.2% premarket. Copper and oil join in, the red metal -1.4%, and WTI crude -0.6%[View news story]
who says inflation higher than 2.5% will not be tolerated? we have had it much higher than that for years which is why the pm's have been in a bull market. inflation will rise ever higher and it will not be reported as such. furthermore, it is the intended fed policy and ecb policy of the western trading system to inflate ourselves out of the mess the pols and cb's got us into in the first place. the fed and the ecb's have never been problem solvers. they are problem creators. that, in fact, is the only thing they do create. they are all Nimrods who build towers, create confusion, and destroy the peace and harmony among people. they are modern day alchemists, who think themselves capable of creating value, wealth, out of worthless paper, now just electronic postings. the mind of man apart from the life-giver can function only as life taker. witness the last 42 years.
