Their numbers were great, but the guidance is tepid. With a P/E of 54 the market doesn't want to hear about 25% growth.

  • GDP Q4 : -0.1% vs. +1.0% consensus, +3.1% prior.  [View news story]
Q3 was distorted higher by inventories and Q4 was distorted lower. Call it a wash. Tax increases will have no meaningful impact on growth, but March 1 sequester, plus any further cuts in spending will produce a decline in aggregate demand.

  • Shares of Vivus (VVUS -21.2%) tank following a disappointing Q3 report earlier today. Despite better revenue, bottom line results missed estimates due to higher Qsymia-related expenses. Additionally, the company says in its conference call that the lack of insurer coverage is a "big concern," and hurting sales of the weight-loss drug. Just 1 in 5 patients get reimbursement, and many patients skip filling prescriptions rather than pay the $160 monthly price tag. (Conference Call Webcast[View news story]
At $160/month the drug from VIVUS is only 25% of the cost of such popular plans as Jenny Craig. You don't have insurance coverage for those plans and they sell extremely well.
