  • Apple's New Smartwatch: Why Investors Should Care [View article]
Even a hands-free cell-phone, never mind the extras described, would surely be a great boon?

I am already preparing mentally for the sight of zombies walking slowly down the street, apparently permanently checking the time on something on their arms, and sometimes raising it to their ears, as if checking for a ticking sound.

  • Apple's Big Mystery Buyer In Q1 2012 [View article]
Good on yer, buffalo. I was just reading through the posts to see if anyone had made this FUNDAMENTAL point - before writing it up myself.

Why doesn't this author follow on from the data, and ask himself WHY the demand to buy calls has PERSISTENTLY been so relatively high? One would think these market makers (like Vegas sports books) would know how to set the line so that action evens out! In this case, it APPEARS they have been consistently surprised by the strength of demand to buy calls at the premiums set, and cannot keep up.

And no one answers you, let alone the author, but prefer to chatter on with irrelevancies.

  • Is Apple's Stock About To Roll Over? [View article]
Just from the sociological angle, the fascinating thing is the fervor, passion and ranting of AAPL investors. Wouldn't Religious_Investor have been a better ID?

This author simply expressed his intuition, his view of a possible future, as in premise + assumption + reasoning = possible result, yet a torrent of equally speculative vomit and invective almost buries him.

I enjoyed the author's article and perspective, despite still being long AAPL (but not as long as before, not at all).

Something for investors to keep in mind: the past is not always a reliable guide to the future.

Chandler - I had exactly the same reaction as you to the assertion about the current share price, ie. "NO, IT'S NOT!!"

However, I think it is precisely because of the kind of points raised by the author that in fact AAPL is NOT valued according to its current (apparent) EPS growth rate.

In other words, Mr Market is well aware of the "fashion" dimension of the strong demand for Apple products, and of how fickle the consumer can be, especially if something better comes along a year or two from now, that we don't yet know about.

Also, albeit a little off-topic, I think it goes without saying that if APPL started paying a 4% dividend, there would be a large one-time upward jolt in the price. The existence of such a dividend, among many other benefits to the share price, would provide a fat cushion against the market's discounting of growth beyond about year 2 from now.

(Disclosure: I am long AAPL, but not as long as I was before the latest earning announcement, and the ongoing, continuing, never-ending, perpetual failure to announce a dividend.)

  • Why Apple Should Borrow Cash and Pay Out a Whopping Dividend [View article]
At last someone said it! What better investment could there be than investing in their own growth and success - by buying back their own stock with their own cash? Only if they really anticipate an acquisition that can match or exceed their own long term profit-growth rate could such a cash hoard make sense, surely? (Or if they anticpate not being able to borrow the cash needed for that acquisition, or anticipate an interest rate on debt higher than the long term profit-growth rate.)
