  • Dividend Stocks Are Not In A Bubble, But Many Of Them Are Pricey [View article]
Thanks Dave. I'm on the sidelines with cash to invest. Most everything in my portfolio and watch list are too expensive to buy. Major oil is the exception, and considering adding to XOM and CVX.

  • You Can Find Better Food Stocks Than McDonald's [View article]
"I'm not yet certain what's going on with MCD as far as why it isn't performing. I'm not yet convinced, however, that it is the result of poor management."

This past Summer I visited approximately 20 stores in the midwest and east coast. The problems/issues made themselves clear and were consistent in all of my visits. I don't discount macro issues and competition, but poor execution is the root cause of their issues. If you haven't surveyed stores I encourage you to do so.

MCD certainly stumbling. All you have to do is visit a few restaurants and you will see the issues first hand. Overall execution is poor, and management response has been slow. I'm Long MCD and believe their current issues can be fixed. This is not the first time they have had issues and won't be the last. This has been a long term position for me and I'm happy to hold.

As far as considering other players in the industry - it all depends on your time frame and strategy. BKW (33.4), YUM (23.4), PZZA (29.3), SBUX (28.7) all sport higher PEs than MCD (18.7), and while their EPS trends are certainly better the same can't be said for sales/revenue. I think there is as much valuation risk in these names as there is in MCD.

  • General Mills - Well Deserved Sell-Off Following A Very Weak Quarter [View article]
Agree that GIS is a core holding. Like most of the big food companies they are struggling to generate organic growth from their portfolio. The Annie's acquisition acknowledges as much. I would wait for a better entry point as it still expensive despite yesterday's sell-off.

  • Kraft: I'm Buying This Dip [View article]
They are having a very difficult time both executing and generating growth in their portfolio. Having worked in the food industry I am familiar with KRFT and am not a buyer. I don't view this as a dip.
