The founder of LLWAS Technology Services, Dr. F. Wesley Wilson Jr. is the Inventor and patent holder for the LLWAS Windshear and Microburst Detection Algorithm, one of the FAA's trilogy of microburst detection systems. A major satisfaction in my life is that the LLWAS is credited with saving a commercial airliner from a microburst crash. Details are provided on our webpage.
I earned my B.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD. For the first half of my professional career (1967-1984), I was a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Colorado, where I concentrated on dynamical systems and numerical mathematics. For the second half, I served as research scientist with the ...More National Center for Atmospheric Research and MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
Currently I am retired to a small Pecan farm in New Mexico. I spend my time tending my wife's extensive Iris Gardens, managing my retirement portfolio, and providing consultations on the LLWAS technology. We enjoy traveling, especially visits to our six grandchildren and their support staffs. In addition, the LLWAS work has provided several opportunities for international travel.
I have enjoyed trading and will confess to having made a buck. That is exciting, but no way to run a business. So most of my efforts now are dedicated to investing in companies with established dividend records and low beta. I raise the yields by selling covered calls when the opportunity presents itself. Not very exciting but it pays the bills. I find that some of the momentum techniques that I developed for trading provide good guidance for managing the covered calls.
Life brings many pleasures and some burdens. Three years ago I learned of my burden. The following poem was my way to communicate this news to my family and friends:
The Message
Heady youth, thumb your nose, deign to think of aging woes.
Some go fast. Some go slow. Eventually, We're gonna go.
We adjust to wear and tear. More rapid slide? More to bear.
For this journey, few wish haste, Not our choice, gods set the pace.
The message comes, the path defined. Our tool to cope: Strength of Mind
It's Parkinson's, My course is set, Stiff upper lip? You bet!
I share this for two reasons:
1. This is another life experience, which I share with others. I would be interested in communicating with Parkies and others who have interests similar to mine.
2. Typing is difficult for me, sometimes I get no letters, sometimes I get lots. So I often use speech recognition software. Either I don't speak so well or it doesn't recognize so well, but the end result is that numerous small errors slip through, especially short words. I try to proofread but I still miss stuff. Please be understanding with editing slips in my commentaries.
LLWAS Technology Services, LLC I am pictured with a friend that I met during a field trip for consultation on a design and installation of an LLWAS in China.
LLWAS is a microburst detection system that I developed for the FAA. It is installed at about 80 US airports and at numerous airports around the world. The technology is based on the ...More
measurement of the wind field in the region near the airport by a network of anemometers. Finding sites to measure unobstructed winds in the congested areas near major airports is a challenge. Siting LLWAS sensors is one of the services provided by our company. As you can see we meet some interesting characters during these activities.
