  • Natural Gas, And Lots of It [View article]
Trane250: It's difficult to get an LNG facility going. People don't want them in their backyards so they almost have to be located well off the Gulf Coast. They would be expensive to build and at great risk during hurricane season, which lasts six months. Then, there's today's markt, or lack thereof,t for NG

  • Chart of the Day, Underemployment Edition [View article]
Do you suppose companies have rid themselves of FT positions and replaced some of them with PT positions, thus increasing the number of PT workers?

  • Mylan Laboratories (MYL) down 2.3% AH as it says it decided to "part ways" with Chief Financial Officer Jolene Varney, who took the job three months ago.  [View news story]
    Jolene wasn't generic.

  • Four Reasons We're Headed Even Higher [View article]
You can talk all you want about the future of the economy. Fact is, trading is done in the present. If you've been in FNM and C the past month or two, you are doing very well. The market isn't about logic. It's not about facts. It's about emotions and, as the author noted, confidence. Only two emotions really matter: Fear and greed. Right now, greed has the reins. Nobody knows how long this will last but you'll never lose if you keep in sync with the market's emotional trend.

  • Are Strategists Now Bearish for the Rest of the Year? [View article]
Are these the same analysts who in early 2008 predicted the S&P to end the year at ~1675 when it actually ended around 930? Yeah, I'll be consulting them before making my next trade.

  • Big Banks: Still in Charge [View article]
A tax on assets, or downsizing won't happen until the global recession is over. Pumping money into the economy via bank bailouts and stimulus packages is working, at least in the short term, and that's all that politicians care about. Meanwhile, there have been few investments the past several months that have performed better than BofA and Citi.

  • Fannie Mae's Results: Dismal [View article]
Here I am, up more than 50 percent today, plus 19 percent in AH. Strategy trumps data and reason once again.

  • The Coming Economic Collapse, Part 1  [View article]
I'm still waiting for something insightful, like what are you going to do with your personal portfolio in light of the conclusions and suppositions you make. You seem to think that what you are discussing is news. It isn't. It's been out there for a long time and you are certainly not the first to make note of it.

  • Oil Above $60/Barrel: Still Cheaper than a Cup of Coffee  [View article]
When was the last time that coffee was cheaper than oil? Never? Introducing a fallacy in the first paragraph doesn't instill confidence in the writer's subsequent thoughts. This was a silly comparison to use, as evidenced by the comments.

  • Year to Date Performance of Leveraged ETFs [View article]
Leveraged ETFs are for trading, not investing. Where else can you make 25 percent in two weeks? Of course, don't bet the farm on them. DIG and DXO have worked for me over the past several months.

  • A Particularly Bad Time for a Pandemic [View article]
Using the Spanish influenza pandemic in the context of swine flu just shows how uninformed Avent is. It's like comparing a suicide bomber to the Nagasaki bomb. Short pork bellies until people realize that swine flu isn 't transmitted through meat products. Then go long.

  • WSJ Weighs in on Peter Schiff [View article]
I tend to agree with Mish. Schiff's clients may never break even given how the economy continues to crumble. Schiff needs to take responsibility for the advice he gives that costs people most of their life savings. He hasn't done that. And as far as saying his clients will profit in the long run, that's meaningless. No one, absolutely no one, knows that will happen in the future, not five years from now, not even five days.

  • Ghost Malls: Coming to Your Town [View article]
It's funny how people like to wallow in the doom and gloom. GDP is expected to decline by 2 percent during 2009. Hardly a depression-level statistic. Consumers will continue to pull back, of course, and it will become hip to be frugal but it won't last. Human nature doesn't change overnight, not even at the point of a gun. The next recovery will be different from previous recoveries, just as the cause of the recession is different. But boom will follow bust as usual. It's the American way.
