  • Uni-Pixel: Production Progress Is On The March [View article]
Management buys stock in the open market precisely because it expects the price to appreciate. Nobody holds managers at fault for purchasing company stock when its depressed. In fact, it is generally regarded as a bullish sign. Held at fault are managers who sell just before the price plummets, as is the case with UNXL. Your damned if they do, damned if they don't supposition is only half right.

  • Rackspace: One Of The Worst Investments Out There [View article]
Obviously, the headline is inaccurate. Of 204 articles written by this anonymous writer, only one is about Rackspace. Not much credibility here. He or she alludes to having been burned by RAX but offers no details. Hope he/she isn't getting paid for this.

I assume you've heard of the First Amendment. If reading these articles raises your blood pressure, why don't you just not read them?

  • Premiums Will Sky-Rocket When Federal Flood Insurance Law Becomes Effective [View article]
No way the new rates take effect before the 2014 elections. Congress members and senators from coastal states will postpone implementation. The alternative is to watch the real estate market collapse, valuations drop like rocks and real estate taxes plummet.

  • The Case For Japan - With A Caveat [View article]
I don't think the author's intention was to supply stock tips. He focused on the pros and cons of the Japanese investment climate. It's not difficult to find an appropriate investment given his comments. His article was cogent and informative.

  • The Performance Of Diamond Food's Brands Could Lead To Oak Tree Buyout [View article]
Expecting a buyout to bail out below average management pretty much signals that DMND is nothing but a speculative stock. I sold my shares the day before the restatement, escaping with a modest profit. Given the lack of a solid plan for growth, I can't even determine what would be a reasonable entry point. You didn't mention that 40 percent of shares are short. This could easily turn into a single digit stock.

  • 3 'Turnaround' Stocks That Analysts Expect To Double [View article]
Here we are four months later and the three mentioned stocks have lost rather than gained ground. MTG is down more than 30 percent. I can't find any analysts predicting these stocks will double in 2013. Where did that info come from?

  • Wall Street Hits PC Escape Key - Or Is It A Ploy? [View article]
Have to agree with you about Barron’s. Writers there are constantly making declarations that often go well beyond what the data supports. With PCs, I think they're digging the grave while the patient is still in the ER. As you note, they may be doing it just so that, if it turns out to be correct, they can say "you read it here first."

  • Why Spain's Bank Rescue Is Only Its First Bailout [View article]
Nobody talks about who will end up paying for this line of credit that is not a bailout. (Whenever semantics pop up, you know things aren't what they seem.) Spanish authorities claim the banks will pay the interest but it will be the unemployed public who repay the principal through increased taxes. How will they do that if they don't have jobs?

  • As Nokia (NOK -14.4%) falls to levels last seen in the late '90s thanks to its Q1/Q2 warning (I, II, III), analysts caution the worst is yet to come. Nomura fears Q2 could be even worse than guidance suggests, and Q3 weaker still. Bernstein, meanwhile, warns the "feature phone" market is disappearing thanks to the adoption of low-cost Android phones. CEO Stephen Elop says he'll consider "asset sales" and other options; could Nokia's patent portfolio be in play?  [View news story]
The "sell-off" Wednesday involved less than 6 percent of the float, so I don't think shareholders are abandoning ship, yet. If the company sells assets, then it should eliminate or greatly reduce the dividend at the same time. The frustratingly opaque CEO, who cares not a whit for shareholders, claimed that competitive pressure is why the company underperformed. Money from asset sales and a reduced dividend could better be used to boost the company's competitiveness. The question I would like answered is why he pre-announced. The only reason I can manufacture is that the company plans to drop the other shoe on April 19.
