"I believe this has occurred because management realized several years ago that franchisee-owned stores were outperforming company-owned stores and decided to improve the business simply by buying out franchisees." I labored thru this article twice looking for the punch line. Do you really think turning over a well run business to someone producing poorer results is a way to " improve the business"? It's a "recipe" for medocrity. Panara is a niche with high brand loyalty. The have high name equity but very low product equity. Every item on the menu can be purchased elsewhere, usually fresher and at a lower price.

All of these have fairly high pe ratios and very low dividend yields. SHW has a share price of $164, a pe of 27, a div yld at 1.22% on the $2/share dividend and an ave div grth rate of 10.1% per year. This means if I bought the stock today and the dividend grew at 10.1% for 5 years, the yield on cost would still be less than 2%. Right?

No, you have obviously done some great research as the results show. Are you making all of your buy/sell decisions based solely on the fundamentals of each stock or are you screening a certain criteria? As for AAPL, I have also recently sold my long term positions. Although the I Phone is still the leader the technolgy advantage has narrowed so that premium pricing is more difficult. I use AAPL strictly for trading options. Thanks again for sharing your work.

"Selling Apple happened rather quickly, but I made the determination that the company has been facing product development issues, as well as margin erosion. The fact that they are sitting with $150 million in cash and not using the money to innovate right now told me that the company has become a value stock rather than a growth stock."

Why I Sold My Verizon Stock (And Why I'm Not Looking Back) [View article]
Depends on why you own it. VZ yields 4.8% even with the high pe. VOD yielding 3.9% with a very low pe. My VZ shares are paying a very high yield on cost and as long as they can do that I'm holding. VOD is a better choice for purchase but that doesn't make VZ a bad choice to hold.......depending on why you own it.

Why The Stock Market Is Rooting For Obama [View article]
I'll take my chances with Romney. Obama hasn't demonstrated a total disregard for the law if it conflicts with his promise to "transform" America. Jim Rogers suggested years ago that we should learn Mandarin Chinese. If Obama wins that will prove to be the very good advice.

Made sense to me. They believe US utilities will move some of their fuel needs from coal to natural gas. They also believe that the demand for coal in foreign markets will increase, therefore they are building export facilities to get their coal to those markets.
