Thank you for the response. In fact, I would love to increase my position in SAN (bought at $4.90 recently) and will welcome another dip near or below the $5 mark.

  • Gold And Silver Are On Their Last Legs ... For A While [View article]
The name I use here is Debutant, meaning "Rookie, beginner" in French; a deliberate sign of modesty (imperative in my culture) in a world (and investment forum) of know-it-alls.

I live in the Euroland where the currency is Euro and prices are expressed in Euro. I sure have investments in USD-denominated assets, but it does not change the fact that gold is quoted, bought and sold here in EUR.

As for your remark "...would have been richer buying $ rather than gold..." let me quote you someone who said recently under another hat he was wearing:

"In my case, my physical holdings were built up over the years and I have stuck to this through prices ranging from ........ to ...... and I plan to stick with this irrespective of where gold prices trade as one ounce of physical gold is worth one ounce of physical gold, period", and, "One way physical gold holdings can be adjusted according to prices is to keep them at a constant percentage of total portfolio in VALUE, say 10%. Therefore, when gold prices move down, physical holdings will be increased, when they move up, some physical gold will be sold".

But of course, consistency is not easy to find in these forums between flips and flaps.

  • John Doody's 3 Secret Factors For Beating The Indexes [View article]
Excuse me, sir, but all I see in that link are FNV's business model, or some old public news about acquisitions by AUY, NGD, PPP, etc. which have already taken place sometime in the past. I guess Mr. Doody does not come forward with a public "buy" or "sell" recommendation, even for once, even to promote his newsletter.

    "Where is gold?

Gold is UP 7.94% YTD :
    38,846 Eur/kg on 31.12.2001
    41,931 Eur/kg on 15.08.2012 (today)

    Gold is UP 2.46% year-on-year:
    40,922 Eur/kg on 14.08.2011
    41,931 Eur/kg on 15.08.2012 (today)

But,of course, traders in the USA talk about Greece, Spain, and the Euro in general, but then forget to mention gold's performance in Europe in Euro.

  • Real Gold And Fool's Gold: Get Physical [View article]
This article is a summary of the virtues of gold investing, we, the long-term, disciplined investors in physical gold know too well. I recommend it for beginners and for those who confuse a gold ETF with real gold. Would be a shame though if the article gets hijacked by a "7,700% appreciation...2,200% inflation.....gold crowd..... M2.... yada yada yada" kind of post.

This stock is a major disappointment in my portfolio. $1.70 for less than a day, and then down 10.5%.

  • A Triangulated Forecast For June 2013 [View article]
Thanks for the article and the additional comments. I reduced my position in FNV just a few days ago, following a fantastic gain of 17.63% (in EURO) in 11 months since 10/2011.

My RGLD holdings have gained only 6.72% (in EURO) during the same 11 month period, but, as you rightly point out, its valuations are better.

FNV and RGLD have yielded 0.58% and 0.50% in dividends (after US and European taxes) during the same period. So, no difference between the two in the dividend yield department.

I often hear about Mr. Doody and his newsletter "The Gold Stock Analyst", but I never hear anything from a paid subscriber over Mr. Doody's predictions, recommendations, and the eventual results. Once or twice he was on financial tv channels where his answer to the question "Which stocks do you recommend, Mr. Doody" has always been "It is in our newsletter for subscribers!".

Again, a 2-feet long interview with Mr. Doody (above) with no mention of any gold stocks to buy or avoid. Interesting!

Gold is UP for the year!
    38,846 Eur/kg on 31.12.2001
    42,011 Eur/kg on 14.08.2012 (today)
    UP 8.14% YTD.

Gold is UP the last 12 months!
    40,922 Eur/kg on 14.08.2011
    42,011 Eur/kg on 14.08.2012 (today)
    UP 2.66% year-on-year

Conclusion: Beware gold shorts who talk their book ad nauseam and think that $/oz is the only way to invest in gold/measure gold's performance.
