10 Stocks with Over 100 Years of Dividend Payments [View article]
Interesting that all these companies started their dividend history in the financial panics/crises of the late 1800's. They have a history of being able to reinvent themselves and get stronger during downturns. Just these 10 stocks would make a very solid dividend income portfolio.

You mentioned age 80. I almost didn't finish the article. Been criticized my entire life for my "boring" investment style. I retired at 47. Many former critics say they will never be able to retire. Slow and steady wins the race.

How would you rank or prioritize these in terms of financial strength? Which are the best? If you had to pick 3, or 5, which would they be? Would like to buy the whole basket. Its likely these companies become key lenders when the banks simply won't lend. Is there an ETF which comes close?, or perhaps its best to buy as a portfolio via Foliofn. Thanks.

You just have to admire the smart management and resilience of these quality "all weather" american businesses throughout this very difficult economic period. Many of them are sitting on excess cash and great balance sheets. When the smoke clears they will probably exceed the performance of the prior decade.
Great job, many good picks. When I was your age I was told to invest for growth, you have time to make up for mistakes, etc etc. Dead wrong. I did what you are doing, invest for income and let compounding and dividend growth work over time. Taxes can become an issue but that is a sign of success. Once your dividend income becomes your "salary" and your free lance work becomes your "dividend" one's entire life outlook has changed. I "retired" at 47 and you'll beat that by 5-10 years. Great job.

Good article. I reinvested via DRIPs until I retired. Then I had all the cash come into an account and then I make a strategic monthly purchase. Look at the Moneypaper strategy. Basically I buy my holding nearest its 52 low. It works.
