  • CEFL January Dividend Gives Yield Of 23% [View article]
@ilusing- I had the same thought going in - getting to break even and then living off the yield; however, upon further review: Does holding CEFL for that long increase our exposure to losing everything to a black swan event that would take out the ETN? Thinking about getting out while we're ahead.

Re: Gold; one perspective is the equilibrium point between gold and oil. Over time it has been about 15 or 16 bbl per ounce of gold. Buy one and sell the other when one crosses below the equilibrium line. This is not a rule. One must apply judgement and insight to the process.

Agree. We are retired and not as reckless as we were in 1998-99.

  • CEFL January Dividend Gives Yield Of 23% [View article]
Our strategy is similar to yours. We do have a rolling ("dynamic?") stop loss order that keeps us at break-even. The floor will escalate to break-even plus 10% when the accumulated yield gets to 20%.

That's a good rational strategy that should work. So...what CEF's DO you own, and what is your record?

We own some CEFL. The YYY looks like an interesting safety and diversification play.

  • Low Inflation And Higher Growth Keep GLD Down [View article]
I don't own gold or oil as commodities or etf's, but if I did I would be aware of the equilibrium price between the two. If you look back 30 - 40 years, 15 - 16 barrels of oil will buy one ounce of gold. So, buy whichever one is below the equilibrium price and when the situation reverses sell and use the proceeds to buy the other. BTW, let us know how this works out.

  • Earn A 9% Yield With This MLP ETF [View article]
But wait there's more. Pipelines earn money based on volume, not WTI price. When the best and brightest figure this out, the MLP's will come back. Even if they don't figure it out, WTI will go higher in a few weeks or worst case a few months. Then the brilliant strategists will opine that pipelines are more valuable.
