  • My 2013 Year In Review [View article]
James, as a new reader of yours (The Russian Divestment Threat - spasibo!) I am sorry to see your efforts so beleagured. Right or wrong, you have put forth a generous summing up of 2013 as you perceived it, and I, for one, appreciate your effort and look forward to your 2014 outlook. As far as I have noticed, you were right about bonds and dividend-paying stocks. I accumulated quite a bit of the latter, taking advantage of their downturn. As for the bubble....seems we are still in it....

  • Dividend Contenders: 34 Increases Expected In The Next 11 Weeks [View article]
Thank you for that valuable high finance anaylsis. I sent it to a very smart friend of Bill W's who knows nothing of finance but plenty about beer....

I am a mostly income investor and sleep very well at night, living off dividends and (mostly tax free) interest...

What I always say is that I don't work for my money: my money works for me!

  • Sell Disney - It Is Too Expensive [View article]
My two complaints with DiS, which I have held for a long time is 1) the paltry dividends, which as an income investor, I have settled for because Disney is Disney, and 2) the lnaccessibility of the company to shareholders. Unless that's changed, several years ago I tried contacting them and it was impossible. Maybe I'm spoiled but I like to talk to shareholder reps once in a while, when something comes up.

nd Yes, a split would be nice. Perhaps also one day the dividends will break $1.00. any comments? Any of you ever get through to the company? Maybe they've changed their attitude since then.

I finally sold some shares just before Dis went into overdrive. Alas! I had held them through many flat years before that and finally gave in. I won't make that mistake again. Thanks, guys, for your comments...

  • Magellan Midstream Partners Surprises With Distribution Growth Boost For 2014 [View article]
I just bought a large position in PAA based on Utility Forecaster's feature article on it. Check out Value line and Morningstar as well - and please do get back to us about what you find. I have checked it out in Valueline in the past and liked what I saw. management is "highly respected." per U.F.

Speaking of splits, didn't HCN split a few years back? I may be mistaken but I think that's when I bought in, as the price had been too high for too long. If I'm right I don't recall seeing that figured in anywhere, Brad.

Joe X, thank you for sharing your historic in-depth knowledge of VTR. While I am long HCN and its preferred, as well as HCP, I am not at all familiar with VTR. Are you a contributor to SA? I'd be interested in hearing more from you on REITS.

  • Energy Transfer Validates Bulls: Why It's The Real Deal [View article]
Excellent discussion generated by your analysis, Ray. I appreciate the quality of commentary here.
What I don't get is why $3.58 is not an adequate distribution considering ETP's low price the last few years. (($40's) I've been happy with 8%. Who's paying more? And at what risk and leverage?

    Thanks Heather.

I'm long EPD as well. Do you know what kind of rates they've locked in for their revolving credit line? For such a short term loan perhaps it's lower than a long term one?
