  • Oklahoma drilling regulator calls recent spike in quakes a "game changer" [View news story]
It's linked to disposal not fracking. Disposal is an ongoing thing as, particularly for the Mississippi Lime along northern OK and southern KS, most of the fluid that comes up as the well produces is water. The oil must be separated from it then the water injected back underground.

  • The Main Bearish Thesis On Crude [View article]
One additional consideration is that a lot of wells are being drilled and not being completed. Presumably these are wells being drilled by rigs finishing their commission. I read that in December in the Bakken there were 400 uncompleted wells up from the 170s monthly average over the majority of 2014. This would likely operate as a cap on prices rather than result in a decrease once these are completed after prices increase. However, I wouldn't think that the impact would be very long lived. Don't know if that's happening in the other plays as well.

  • Crude Oil: Has The Price Paradigm Changed? [View article]
Definitely a gutsy call when oil is cratering like it is. If you turn out to be correct, I hope you remind people that you were! I don't see many others making the same call.

  • Bakken Oil Production Growth Has Slowed Significantly In 2013 [View article]
I think your general premise is correct and after the core areas are infilled production will drop substantially, however comparing the first half of this year to the previous is a tough comparison because of the very poor spring weather which put completions way behind schedule, creating a huge backlog. As that is worked through by winter, it will be interesting to see the 2nd half numbers.

  • Bakken Update: Top Eagle Ford Wells Of All Time Are Moving To The Bakken Part II [View article]
    Michael,
Hess' well results have definitely lagged as you point out. Any reason to think they will start to use more proppant and water? I wonder if their new activist shareholder will put pressure on them in this regard. Particularly as they bring money home from overseas.

  • Bakken: 'Deep' Revolution Underway - Everything Investors Need To Know [View article]
I meant to ask, are Statoil and Hess testing deeper benches at this point do you know?

On a side note, it looks like a lot of those deeper benches were done on 2560 acre spacing (which makes sense) and I bet a lot of non-operating interests went non consent in those early wells.

  • UNG +2.3% following an unexpected drawdown in natural gas storage. The news isn't helping SandRidge (SD -3%) as investors "sell the news" of TPG winning its battle against CEO Tom Ward and the board. [View news story]
There was one following the spike after the report.

Ugly candle on UNG. Sell the news heading into warmer weather and increased production.

  • Bakken Update: Triangle Petroleum Is A 2013 Top Bakken Stock Pick [View article]
    Mike,
I agree that TPLM is very well managed, but a few questions on your thesis:

    1. How good does the Station Prospect have to be for your thesis to work out. Southwestern drilled a crappy well just near part of the prospect. Tons of water little oil.
    2. According to Baker Hughes quarterly call, pressure pumping has 25% excess capacity nationwide and 300 drilling rigs would have to come online to absorb the excess horsepower. Is Rockpile getting other work outside TPLM important to your thesis?

  • Above The Fiscal Cliff Noise [View article]
I don't know if I would say 20% downside at all. My point is that any rally will be capped and I wouldn't expect new highs until that's resolved. And it won't be without a bunch of drama.

  • Above The Fiscal Cliff Noise [View article]
Michael, personally I don't think the fiscal cliff is the biggest problem. Rather, it's the debt ceiling f the fiscal cliff is playing out this way, watch out for the debt ceiling because hostages will be taken once again. The market will start to focus on that (to the extent it isn't already) and any upside will be capped...in my opinion anyway. That said, I am always a fan of your writing.
